He's looking to play fullback - a great available option and alternative to DUGAN if negotiations keep dragging on
Running Fullback
22yo
Excellent link player
Excellent under the high ball
$700k a a season at best

Any idea why the Dragons would let go Dugan 700k and sign Johnston for 700k?
Any idea why the Dragons would let go Dugan and pass up Gagai who all were asking for 700k. Doesn't make sense to me.

I would think if it happens, we aren't paying him anywhere near close to 700k.

I'd much rather throw in one of our own juniors though.

Although Possm your theory is replsce with like for like or better, we would be replacing Dugan who is an international with Johnston who is also an international..

I just think this is a recruitment stuff up with Millward and Dugan both confirming they are boof heads
In any case I think we should at least give Dufty the opportunity to perform on the big stage next year.

How many internationals has AJ played?.....lets see mmmm 1.

So, based on this theory we should be punting McInnes to reserve grade and re-signing Havili, who has also played for NZ (1 game, so he's an intetnational player as well) on a 3 or 4yr deal as our starting 1st grade hooker.

I did say I'd rather our juniors there.

Very much a tongue in cheek post to Possm with the international part. Knew it would get a response from someone!

I don't like it either but (if true) surely this is not as replacement for Dugan at fullback. We have Dufty and perhaps Field to trial there.

Remember, Millward stated Dugan would be a centre in the future. Aitken is struggling. Perhaps the plan is to shift Nene to right centre and have Johnston outside him on the wing? Left field I know but I can't work this possible signing out.

It's to replace Nightingale. Surely.

I think both of you could be right. And I also don't think we will be paying Johnston 700k or hopefully not even close to 600k to play for us.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is bought in as a replacement for our wingers and even gave the McDonald to centre move a thought, which would mean we are cutting our losses with Aitken or moving him to the forward rotation.

But then I still think we have a plethora of outside backs, why not use them? I understand Johnston is only a year or two older than some of them but has much more experience and I'd probably a better player but given his salary I don't know if his overall value is higher.
