Anyone who has a problem with him can f**k off and burn their computer. Nobody gets to criticize him unless they've walked in his shoes. 1 million can disappear pretty bloody quickly in his situation..

I'm all for a bit of BM bashing, but how is what he said inaccurate?

The bloke is 23 and likely paralysed for life. $1 million will evaporate pretty quickly when you consider ongoing medical attention for he rest of his life as well other factors.

You don't have to be an "expert" to figure that out. Just have half a brain.

How is it the nrls fault? No one was forcing him to play. Sure their insurance doesnt cover all the costs for permanent disability but does any work place? Isnt that why we all go and get our own private health insurance? Or do footballers on many times more the average person not have to do that.

1.1m in a trust fund, a job for life and an annual rise for alex round puts him massively ahead of all the other people who have been paralyzed.

You just know some ambulance chasing lawyer has approached him, not the other way around.

Hes within his rights to seek damages but I very much doubt the NRL would let it see the inside of a courtroom.

I would assume the NRL would have insurance which would cover them for any litigation against them. Can't really blame the man for looking at all of his options.

I'll give McKinnon the benefit of the doubt and suggest maybe the NRL hasn't been as forthright with him about that job for life as they were when the cameras were on them, but if they have, it seems a bit greedy on Alex's part, especially as Newcastle continue to run out every weekend with Rise for Alex emblazoned on their jersey.

Alex is still young and not without hope, still, he should pursue every avenue to ensure he's looked after in old age. To make certain of it he has to sue, be made to realise it is strictly business and no player in his right mind would think badly of him for pursuing it.

The wankers in the whole thing will be those who apportion blame on individuals, instead of misfortune that needs to compensated for, and the vultures who are needed to complete the process

There is no way 30k in a trust fund in the 70s is enough to live on disabled. That is a falsehood to try to generate some bad will McKinnon's way.

It's shameful that the NRL don't have insurance in place to cover this in the first place.

I can't believe the scummy way people try to tie their donations to dictate people's lives.

If that's the sort of low life you are, stop donating!

Aren't personal insults meant to be moderated?

I agree with your logic, Alex Mckinnon should do everything in his power to better his position in the right way.

But the same applies to the NRL.

The NRL played nice to begin, if the gloves come off then you can hardly personally insult another bloke for suggesting that the nrl should also take the gloves off.

But then again, you could be just trying to provide entertainment.

So can Anthony Tupou sue the warriors and Hurrell?

Possibly..... not sure it would be worth all the hassle of hiring lawyers and going through all of the expense and litigation over a broken jaw though... Unless of course that broken jaw has consequences such as Anthony needing to have his house modified so that it is wheelchair accessible in all aspects, a specially designed vehicle to cater for a broken jaw, a carer to assist with bathing him, wiping his butt, doing his shopping and things like that for the rest of his life.... It would have to be a pretty severe jaw break to result in all of that, thus making any litigation a wothwhile exercise. Let's see how it plays out.

This kind of thing has already been tested in the courts. The players accept the risk that they may get injured given what they do, but the wording was something like in the normal course of events. Deliberate foul play fell outside that.

I'm pretty sure the case was pre civil liability act though so not entirely sure what difference the relevant sections would make if they prove deliberate foul play that is outside of the expectation of contact/injury when agreeing to play the game. (assuming they are going down that path)

1 million isn't much for this either, we got over 8mill for a slightly younger person injured in an accident with similar injuries. There is a lot more to take into account than loss of income.

Rightfully so, the NRL continually allows these tackles. He should sue and he should get a good payout. The NRL failed in their duty of care not sure how that can be questioned. They refused to take measures on these tackles well before Alex' incident.

How is it the nrls fault?

How about the fact the NRL failed in their duty of care to correctly outlaw these types of tackles. They should have been harsher. Instead we have mickie mouse 1 week penalties...and even this week Tyrone Peachey speared someone...yep 2 weeks. Weak as a sack of you know whats. The NRL should settle this out of court they won't want their poor governance and duty of care coming out in the court.

The phrase "ongoing medical costs" is repeated a lot. In NZ public health would cover everything in his situation. Do you guys pay when you go to hospital?
