The phrase "ongoing medical costs" is repeated a lot. In NZ public health would cover everything in his situation. Do you guys pay when you go to hospital?

Do you get free in house visits from physios, nurses, doctors and Occupational Therapy for the next 50 years in New Zealand?

He is not in hospital for the next 50 years.

I think so. I had an injury which only required on going treatment for 3 months after i left hospital but that was all "free".Surely all NRL players have some kind of income protection/ injury insurance?

It doesn't bother me if he does, A lifetime is a long time to spend in a wheel chair, I would be going for every dollar I could get to make myself comfortable and get the best treatment.

What the NRL has done for him is good but you only have to look at how SImon Dwyer and Tuaki were forgotten to see why he would consider legal action.

They are often for set periods or until symptoms/injuries are stable and stationary, which doesn't mean better, it simply means as good as it will get. Maintenance rehab is often not covered.

Para and quads, for example, require around the clock assistance, it's not cheap.

oh ffs it is a common figure of speech. I am strongly defending him and what he is doing. I won't be lectured to about being insensitive to him.

I'm not lecturing you about being insensitive.

I'm lecturing you about being so f**king stupid that you didn't even realise you said something insensitive you moron.

McKinnon is entitled to sue the NRL and Storm, so in that case I don't have a problem with him doing so.

How does every other disabled person who doesnt get given 1m+ survive.

Just like someone who doesn't have a job and is on the dole.

With a pretty shitty existence.

And frankly a lot of people who are injured in workplace accidents do sue for large payouts.

But because some jerkoff put a $2 coin in a tin, they feel that Alex is allowed to explore options that may secure his and his family (who support him) future.

How where either of the parties negligent? Surely the only opportunity is the player who did it? Of course you will be advised to go after the money, ie NRL and club but I would think it is a much harder case to argue they were in some way responsible unless you could prove:
A) The Storm coach that type of tackle or encourage it in some way
B) the NRL knew the potential risk of injury and did nothing to reduce that risk to a reasonable level.

I'd think both of those areas would be pretty hard to prove.

Now if it happens again you might have a case given how soft the NRL continue to be on penalising these types of tackles. You could argue that despite the risk they do not do enough to minimise the risk occurring because they don't punish the act harshly enough.
