Thoughts go out to Alex Mckinnon, just a horrible horrible accident that has ended tragically, yes McLean lifted him, yes McKinnon tucked his head making it worse, yes Smith questioned the penalty as Hampton was dropped on his head twice in the game earlier on for no penalty, but at the end of the day these are all trivial points, it was an unfortunate accident, there was zero intention to hurt Alex, and its only human nature to look for someone to blame, but at the end of the day its a high impact high velocity sport, this has happened before and it will happen again, lets just pray Alex a speedy recovery and hopefully this hasnt shattered McLean to the point where he gives the game away, poor kid must be feeling terrible.

The Snowden ban was moronic in the extreme and the only thing more stupid was the comment by the judiciary that the severity of the ban was partly due to injuries suffered

If we start comparing everything to the most stupid knee jerk reaction in the past 10 years we'll make a right f**king mess for ourselves

That we will.

Now is not the time for the blame game,We have a young man who may have a disability for life. Isaw the tackle and could not even watch the replay I was so scared for the young man.

Iam sure the 26 players on the field and the four officials will all be having some trouble getting over the tackle. Their was no malice, maybe reckless, but certainly no malice. I feel for both clubs but mainly Alex McKinnon.

Cameron Smith should know by now that he is the most arrogant and disliked man in the game. He is full of himself. If he was a man he would have knelt beside McKinnon and made sure he was ok.

I think they were all in a state of shock.

I wouldn't judge Smith to quick, probably just didn't realize just how bad a look it was, just trying to do the best for his team as he always does.

The downside to a single-minded focus on winning, but I'm sure if he had his time over again he'd have zipped it.

.....

Goes without saying, but all the best to McKinnon.

Spare a thought or two for him and his family.

Years of grubby tactics is no accident
+ 1 . People talk of Bellamy in revered tones. I think the guy has achieved nothing. Cheated to get GF wins and then was able to keep the nucleus of that team to win 1 legitimate Premiership. ( just as Canterbury did in earlier) Other than that his tactics have done nothing to enhance the game what so ever. Deadset grub

Obviously it's still very early but can anyone comment on the likely hood of him ever playing again?

I see the SMH is running a story saying career over.

Obviously I get that it's extremely unlikely but has anyone else ever come back from a similar injury in pro sports?

Cameron Smith had a fair argument. He didn't know the extent of the injury and was only doing his job as a captain.
If reports today said McKinnon had no damage then Smiths argument wouldn't get a mention.
No one knew the extent of his injury until today so everyone stfu and pay your respect.
He had no right in any sportsmanship definition you might care to mention......"fair play, respect for opponents, and polite behavior"

He cared more about a penalty and keeping his player on the field than he did for a fallen opponent.

Poor taste and defo the shitbag award for the year goes to this smug prick

Doctors will tell him the odds of the injury worsening are high and that it is strongly advisable that he not play on. Pretty much the same thing Johns was told.

While celebrating Jharal Yow Yeh whose career was devastatingly cut short through injury, we have lost another one in one fell swoop. Bad week for Rugby League.

Tbh I thought he was concerned the ref was going for a send off so he got in early to try and have a say before the ref made his mind up. Really don't have any prob with it, that is what you expect a capt to do. Lol at the smith haters, he is one of the greatest hookers of all time and very rarely is pinged for foul play. Any club in the world would love to have him.

He is young, that is the positive, so if anyone can make it back he can. Medicine is better these days. That said, won't play this season or probably next.

He has history mate. The 2008 Gf he missed due to his twist on Thaiday's neck.

Does it change opinion on Smith if Billy Slater last night on radio has come out and said they could tell straight away from Alex's reaction that it was a serious injury?

Bloke lying on ground yelling that he can't feel his arms and legs... Better go complain to the ref that he did it to himself so my team doesn't get disadvantaged.

He was badgering the refs while he was still lying on the ground. The ref actually told him to piss off and wait
