But they need to consistently crack down on this from round four onwards for all offenders, I reckon. . :(

You go out and drink-drive once chances are you'll get away with it. But if you seriously injure someone after drinking and driving you are in a world of trouble.

If only Cam Smith was the one with the broken neck. Maybe then would he get some sense of decency and humility.

I don't like Smith either but this is tasteless. More fitting would be if the Queensland and Australian selectors would reconsider whether this is the sort of individual they want representing their Rugby League teams as captain after his appalling behaviour last night.

Cameron Smith had a fair argument. He didn't know the extent of the injury and was only doing his job as a captain.
If reports today said McKinnon had no damage then Smiths argument wouldn't get a mention.
No one knew the extent of his injury until today so everyone stfu and pay your respect.

I think most of us had a pretty f**king good idea what could have happened. I think Cam Smith did too. He just decided that that was less important than arguing the penalty and accusing McKinnon of doing it to himself.

Ironically the last line of your post would have been great advice for Smith.

McKinnon couldn't even remove his own mouthguard he was that damaged and that turd Smith would have seen that for sure. He just chose to ignore McKinnon's plight because lets face it he's a nasty bugger. Besides supporters from every other club have the same take on last nights events. You're fighting a losing battle here. The videotape doesn't lie!!!

I like the drink driving analogy. Say someone is 0.06, no malice, most often would get home safely. One night hits a car and someone breaks their neck because they weren't wearing a seatbelt.
Do you really think it's appropriate to argue that the person with the broken neck is the one to blame because they didn't wear a seatbelt? Is it appropriate for the drink driver to pay a small fine because it was just an unfortunate accident?
As for Massoud and his due process......what about players who are sent off? Where's their due process? I remember Ryles playing against the Storm being sent off for kicking out at someone's ankle in a scrum. What a joke.
It's a sport and the governing body has a right to make decisions on who plays it.

He didn't know that the bloke who screamed at his team mate to take his mouth guard out because he couldn't move his arms might be seriously injured?

Smith had the best view of anyone of that tackle. You can see him looking straight at it from front on in the reverse angle. He was standing next to the ref, whose microphone was picking up on mckinnons panicked voice, while making his complaint.

The only way he didn't know was because he flat out did not care to check. That is low.

After it became apparent to all and sundry about the seriousness of the injury and we watched them carry McKinnon off as carefully as possible, he STILL thought it worthwhile to argue over a goddamned penalty 30 seconds from halftime. That was even lower.

Own up to the fact your captain did a shitty thing

When do you believe Smith made his comment about Alex's head on his chest?

Horrible news for McKinnon, hope he makes as good a recovery as he can.

Feel bad for the tackle as well. Not malicious at all, just went wrong as happens pretty regularly in rugby league. Horrible outcome all round.

NRL should have outlawed this properly years ago. Put your hand on a ball getting up and the ref blows up quick enough, lift in the tackle and they wait till the player is on his head. The refs need to blow the whistle the instant a player puts his hand/arm through to grab one leg. Players are obviously used to doing this, the kid who did the tackle did the exact same thing just a few minutes later. There were probably three or four other occasions in that match alone.

But we already have, and to the point where the judiciary was candid in saying that was exactly the case.

The Snowden ban was moronic in the extreme and the only thing more stupid was the comment by the judiciary that the severity of the ban was partly due to injuries suffered

If we start comparing everything to the most stupid knee jerk reaction in the past 10 years we'll make a right f**king mess for ourselves

It's a horrible situation, can't hope enough that McKinnon comes through this without long term damage, even if he's unable to continue his career.

I also feel sorry for Maclean. Yes it was a lifting tackle, but it was also one of the most innocuous lifting tackles you'll ever see and now he's going to have to live with the possibility that he may have been part of ending another players career.
