Dog act blaming McClean

Who said anything about blaming him? In workplace terms MacLean behaved negligently and those actions directly contributed to McKinnons injury. It doesn't have to be deliberate to create an unsafe and dangerous situation.

Can't blame him given his situation but I really hope he looses for the good of the game.

Looses what? The hounds? Some kind of genetically modified attack Koalas? Don't keep us in suspense here, what could he be setting loose?!

To be fair Danish he wasn't the only player????

He was the one who lifted him. Anyway its not about who McKinnon personally holds responsible its just his best chance of winning after Mclean was the one found guilty of an illegal tackle.

I'm going to chose my words carefully here so I don't sound like a dick. First of all, I could not imagine what is would feel like to be told I'd never walk again - I'm sure it would be truly devastating for he and his family. Financially, it would be a strain and a half too. However, we can't forget that McKinnon signed an NRL contract knowing the maximum payout of these incidents was $500,000. For this reason, I don't believe he will win the court case against the NRL.

He may have a elevated chance of winning against Mclean as I admit the tackle was illegal in accordance with the rules of the game, but I'm not sure what good that would do financially. Mclean would be on no more than $200k a year, so I doubt much financial relief will come through that avenue

did they bring in a player insurance after this event?
When i was playing we had insurance through our club subs, admittedly we were only amateurs, but we had player insurance to cover loss of earinings if we couldn't work through injury, and the insurance covered medical bills.

I could understand making a case against the NRL assuming he hasn't received enough of what he was guaranteed.

However on McLean, he wouldn't be on much at the moment, although he is an up and comer and could potentially earn a bit more in the future. I just don't think its going to help.

Not sure how this is going to end but I feel for McKinnon and McLean.

The fact that these guys go out and risk their lives basically without insurance or some kind of compensation package is ridiculous. Makes them idiots and the Nrl incompetent.

I'm assuming he would need to sue the NRL to get their Insurer to payout. I'm guessing there is some process that needs to happen before any insurance the NRL has (public liability/indemnity) can be released, and this is part of it.

Haha fat fingers on an iPad. But yes he could be letting "loose" a whole can of worms. How many injuries, all be it not as serious, do we see across sport due to foul play? Are we saying it is ok to sue for them all or just the serious ones?

he got nearly $3mill and a job for life whilst others are managing on ndis so it's not like he hasn't been looked after by the game is it?

I'm not sure he's saying he wasn't looked after. I think he's saying that, as a direct result of negligence by an NRL employee, he has been maimed for life and needs constant care which the NRL hasn't provided for. That's expensive. He has every right to seek the right level of compensation for his injury and if it makes the NRL actually look out for players who are severely injured in future then hallelujah
