Gutting stuff. Tough to express just how heartbreaking this news is and just how helpless I feel

Agree with everyone that something needs to be organised to help him and his family.

The last time I was this sad about anything footy related was when Ben Alexander died.

Tragedies like this just aren't supposed to happen to such great kids in the prime of their lives. So f**king unfair!

I've never been a Knights fan, but man, I really feel for all you guys right now, as well as for Alex and his family.

He's going to need, and I know he will receive, all your support for the rest of his life. This is just horrible.

I think on this occasion though, its shown that the greater RL community do have hearts and are deeply saddened and affected by this news.

This is a good thing.

And we all pray and hope that he does avoid being quadriplegic or paraplegic.

Absolutely gutted and devastated for Alex and his family. No one deserves to end up like this from doing something they love let alone a person as young and kind hearted as him. So much life and potential gone in an instant.

If he is never to walk again, death becomes the only thing worse and that is just unfair. Life can be shockingly unfair and this is a prime example. Things like this prove there is no greater being watching over us. How do good people deserve bad fortune? They don't so why does it happen?

If ever a miracle was needed, it's now. Our thoughts are with you Alex, I'm sure we'll see you stand tall once again.

Hopefully he does recover from this and is able to walk again. My prayers and thoughts are definitely with him, his family and his partner.

Dave, I know you're expressing concern but death is not the only worse thing. Brain damage can be much worse than quadriplegia.
Also, this doesn't "prove" there's nobody watching over us. Many in the footy community have faith in a higher being and have sent out prayers for Alex, which I'm sure is appreciated. This is a test for Alex and his family for sure, but it's not the end. He has a huge task ahead of him but me and the whole rugby league community will do all we can to help.

Let's add Channel 9 to the list of media organisations not allowed access to our players or coaches. Add the Newy Herald to the list too.

Yep. And make it known to the public that they're not allowed near our club so anything they try and report on this everyone will know they're talking out of their slimy arses.

I knew there was something seriously wrong with that "report" last night. No way they'd give any type of permanent diagnosis like that this early.

Total scum.

That is really low. Like low even by media standards. So many normal people like us fans and well-wishers who don't have any agenda except to know the truth and wish Alex well and we get given false information because some scummy journos will stop at nothing to be 'first to the story', it's so wrong.

9 should be made to publicly apologize for jumping the gun in such a ridiculous fashion and making everyone suffer with that 'news' last night, but I'm not holding my breath. Media pretty much never get held accountable for anything and it's bullshit.

+1 ...that young man needs all the hope he can cling to right now. The very last thing he needs to hear is rubbish about him never walking again. Shame on the journalists who reported this. They are a F$c#ing disgrace.

Yeah, I know what your saying mate. I posted that when I just heard about the latest news and wasn't really thinking straight. Just feel so bad for the guy.

It's pretty gut wrenching hey. We want to know all the details as soon as possible but I guess we have to realise this is going to be a very drawn out process. I think we all just need to be a little bit patient.

"Newcastle have slammed Channel Nine over a 'sensationalised' report that claimed injured Knight Alex McKinnon will never walk again."

http://www.sportal.com.au/league/nr...sed-media-coverage/1la2i8jz4zc2u10arjhu5h8tnh

Someone in ch9 needs a good kick in the ass

i was willing to give nine the benefit of the doubt that maybe in the rush to get the story out somebody didnt check their facts properly but

if any part of that report was sensationalised or they do not immediately issue a heartfelt and sincere apology i will never watch that channel again i can see fox replays of all their games & not much else on nine interests me

I'm seriously considering a boycott of 9 as well. Like you said, we can catch the games on fox anyway.

Footy Show will see some panic driven apology given to Alex and his family. I find it incredible they were so sensitive about their coverage of the issue all week and then they come out with this insensitive crap on a News report.
