all hope is gone-slipknot

I will have to agree with Beave. Where is the factor in the new albums from Slipknot or Dragonforce which progressed them? It just seems like a volume 2.
Opeth at least go different places each album (if you appreciate it enough) but except for one song on each album, the forementioned I didn't fully appreciate.

I guess that's the difference though - Opeth, though technically a metal band, openly say they just play music and don't like being labeled. Slipknot and a lot f other bands fall into one musical genre and don't break out of it.

Opeth fall into a fair few. Progressive, death...but there are sections of their songs (even whole songs) that fall nowhere near either category.
I want to see bands like Slipknot explore more.
Never will happen though.

Yeah you're right. But that's why I guess we all find Opeth so fascinating - you never know what you're going to get in an Opeh album.

Dragonforce - God love 'em and all, but they are so samey.

Well I don't think Opeth's style changes too much from album to album, other than when they moved from a blackened sound to a death sound after Morningrise.

Certainly they are progressive death these days with folk thrown in.

Always classy though.

From me...even just with one or two songs...they add some level of catchiness to it I think. I don't know how to describe.

That's what you get with Opeth...difficult to describe the music!! ;-)

I have to admit - my mate played me some of "All Hope Is Gone" and I didn't hate it. Obviously musically and lyrically it doesn't have the depth of an Opeth or In Flames release, but I thought it was catchy.

Anyone watched the DVD that come with the digipak version? Not too bad, very random.

In the DVD Sid's in a hospital bed looking all messed up and bleeding, anyone know what happened to him?

I don't mind the riff but it's all too cheesy for my liking.

Having said that, after 3 weeks in Beijing and 2 in Macau I was actually a bit excited to finally hear something a bit heavyish. Normally if Slipnknot came on I'd be throwing the remote at the TV.

Oh, and it's nice to be back in the land of the living - I look forward to more metal diaologue with you fine people.

havent seen the dvd...but i remember seeing a clip on a metal site of him in a hospital bed looking f**ked up with some girl telling him to roll over. And the description mentioned he hit his head doing some DIY repairs around the studio...or something like that anyway.
