An appeal is not a quick or easy thing. Firstly a barrister has to find legal grounds for that appeal and I’m guessing it has to be in law not an unsound verdict. Hayne has been waiting since May for his appeal to be heard I think it’s 9/12 months from lodgement. I’m in the goodbye and good luck camp it’s time to move on.

Plenty on here are saying why did Flanno let go of Sullivan but surely he would have factored in that there was a high probability that Amone would lose his case and go to jail so I am sure he has a plan. Now whether that plan is Flanno Junior and Hunt and whether it's a good/selfish plan I don't know.

The 3 Scenarios I can see:

1) He gets suspended jail time.. no appeal needed.. free to play in 2024
(bar a likely suspension from the NRL integrity unit).
2) He gets jail time.. he will then appeal.. the legal process restarts.. and we are back where we were in 2023.. noting that in theory he is still potentially innocent.. and that the jail time is still <11yrs, so he's still not subject to the no-fault stand-down policy.
3) The Club gets legal advice and sacks him early.. if thats even an option.. basically I dont know if anything has changed 'today' versus last week for example.. as he still has his right of appeal.

Huh? Under number 2, he still has to report to prison. He may be granted bail while he awaits his appeal, but more likely he'll be spending the start of 2024 in prison.

He's also been proven guilty, so there is no innocent until proven guilty at this point.

I think he can apply for bail straight after sentencing at the court.

He will still be in custody for a short time though.

I think most of us saw this coming when we saw the footage and then old Rumpole and his “ desperate” defence.

Amone didn’t give evidence because he can’t lie to the court. The first question the prosecution would have asked is obviously where he was. And where’s his alibi? If he wasn’t on the roof where was he? Can he prove he was somewhere else? They can track his phone, they can question witnesses, check road cameras. All kinds of tech to see if he was telling the truth.

Basically, he’s cashed in his 25% full discount he would have got on a plea of guilty. Now he’s facing full freight.

And it was no “vanilla “ assualt. It was aggravated and not very nice.

It was extremely dangerous and roofie could have been killed. Then it’s manslaughter or worse.

He can appeal all grounds ( magistrate erred) or on severity, after the penalty is handed down ( too harsh).

I think he will go inside. Anyone found guilty of this should be locked up. She can’t send a message to people that this is Ok and the consequences aren’t severe.

Otherwise, the prosecution will probably appeal.

It was a high tech defence but she seems to have got him on the id of his clothes. Same clothes. He didn’t think to get changed!

Anyway, I think we all saw it coming. I don’t feel anything for him. He’s another mug, you wouldn’t want him living near you or anything like that.

The old man could have called the Ranger.

On our street, no one would have cared. Probably just offer the roofies a cold drink.

But these pricks want to own the neighbourhood.

Now Junior and the old man can look forward to a suing they will never forget. Pain, injuries, suffering etc. May even have to sell the house.

And mark my words, they will whinge on about being the victims.

Should he play NRL again? No.

And they should probably compensate the club for this bullshit too.

I hope the youngster does his time and gets a real job and turns his life around. I hope he learns from this and can move forward. Bitter lesson.
In some ways, I think that Flanagan hasn't even given out a sigh of sorrow with Amone's verdict. I think he is relieved that Amone now has been stood down and following a few more weeks of legalities, Amone won't return to the Dragons and that makes his decision (albeit on the cards from the time he negotiated his Head Coach contract) to bring his son to the club a "wise" one knowing that their combination will steer the club to better things and without any further bickering from Sullivan. Whether or not all this will happen is a wait and see.

You have made comments Silverdale that I also see as they were and are the case for the Amones. Their road has come to a complete dead end and face a bleak future is what I see.

He has to file his appeal first. And it's hard to get bail when you are found guilty of a violent crime.

He’s on bail at the moment after the finding isn’t he?

Anyway, we are both probably scraping the plate clean and on the same page.

He’s still in big trouble. Subject to appeal, I think hes going to do some time.

Thanks DD, the root of the evil is the bad temper, some kind of deranged thought process.

As soon as the high tech black letter defence emerged, the magistrates eyebrow probably hit her forehead. She’s not stupid nor intimidated.

It seemed to me to be a risky defence perhaps brought about by necessity because junior was actually there!

The lawyer probably told junior the strong likelihood of the finding in advance and he threw the dice.

Now he’s lost 25% discount. He might get 10% or more for other reasons. But the bulk buy discount card won’t work at the judicial checkout.

on who though?
Pretty long list of players that would all be potential suitors for us, either rumoured to be shopped around for next year, or off contract at the end of next year and possibly moving clubs for 2025. I'm sure there is more that will look to get out of contracts we don't even know about. We should be looking through players like, but not limited to:

Connor Tracey, Josh Curran, Tom Dearden, Toby Sexton, Taylan May, Sunia Turuva, Junior Tupou, Nick Meaney, Luke Metcalf, Trey Mooney, Jacob Saifiti, Jordan Riki, Beau Fermor (?), Jayden Brailey (?), Suia Wong, Terrell May.

Those are players who are either being shopped around, or are hitting the open market in November, except for the two with a question mark, both of which I could see being forced out of their clubs for salary cap reasons, and would be good pickups. As I say also, there's plenty more that will become available that we don't know about yet, but I'd be getting a gauge on pretty much everyone I've listed for next year and 2025 at least.

I thought he was a good player with a lot of potential.

But something like this, run-away temper, poor influences, hanging around with dead beats and idiots away from the club, he’s not someone you need as he’s too unreliable.

He’s now facing 5 years instead of 3.75 years for this Ill fated legal sojourn tempting fate.

Whats another 1.25 years?

Well for Junior, in the theory, if anyone wants to deal with him, he’s done half a million bucks and he probably paid for the privilege too.

They didn’t know the roofies, no existing axe to grind which makes it even worse.

If they wanted to play the tough guys in the neighbourhood, they could have scared a few cats off or stolen a gnome or something.

And they’ll find out in gaol, there’s always people tougher than them, especially in groups.

Surely there would be something in Amone's contract that if found guilt of a criminal charge which will end up serving goal time, the contract should becomes null and void.

BBQ gate, JDB saga and this all happened in Wollongong. Maybe force players to move to Kogarah or train full time there so they choose to live in Kogarah. You cannot blame the club for these stupid incidents but the players.

I feel for Amone for one thing and that is if his father was not around at the time of the incident, he would not have reacted or done what he did to get in this situation he is in now. You look up to your dad to set a good example and his dad clearly did not and Amone's NRL career is now basically over because of it.
