I think that teams that are beaten by 50 during the season should not be allowed to play in the finals series.

Now before you all call me a crack pot, think about it logically.You get flogged by 50ish you obviusly do not care about your performance so if you have a benchmark it may make teams try harder for the full 80 minutes.

if more than 8 teams get beaten 50 to in a game you can have a small round robin to select the teams worthy to play finals (i know that none really deserve it but it will make more money for the nrl for more tv games mid week or something).

realistically it will not happen but a man can dream that the final series will no be filled with rubbish team beaten by a cricket score throughout the whole year (or we could just go for a top 5)

Heres an eve better idea

If a team wins by 80 , then straight away they win the premiership, no need for finals football.

I think this will help bring meaning to the second half of one sided games

So what happens if it is Round one, and you get a guy sent off in the first 5 minutes followed by an injury or two, then you get 50 put on you.......Season over?

Dumbest idea i have ever heard. What if your team has a great start to the season and has 10 players chosen for origin then get beaten by 50 because practicially your whole first grade squad is out on rep duties. Do you think they deserve to miss out on the finals even if they are a top four team when at full strength.

P.s. Dumbest idea i have ever heard.

IF you want to enforce this rule, the very minimum youneed to shorten the NRL season by half. Too many variables can happen in a 26 round season, if it was 13 rounds? Then this idea isnt that bad, cause good teams wont get flogged by 50 when EVERY game they play counts

If this rule is adopted by the Independent Commission, it does seem a tad harsh.

Maybe if you get 50 points put on your side, you also need to have 3 of the following list occur during the same game to be excluded from the finals:

* concede at least 7 penalties,
* 2 players on report
* 1 sendoff and/or 2 sin bins,
* Jason Ryles is in your run on side
* Jason Ryles played for your club within the last 5 years,
* Jason Ryles never played for your club,
* Your waterboy played First Grade within the past 3 seasons
* Your waterboys last name rhymes with Movie

Please feel free to add to this list..........Cheers

Incidentally, this would been applied six times in history, most notably upon Newcastle in 2002. Beaten 64-14 by Cronulla, they finished 2nd

And whilst looking at that, I noticed one of others was Norths in 1998, who conceded 66 tries in the H&A season, but 11 of them in one game to lose 60-6. They finished 4th.

Beaten by 50 or have 50 points scored against you?

And would this apply to U20s? Because there wouldn't be a single team left.
