Anasta being released?

I'd much rather keep Anasta for 2014. Either playing 5/8 with Brooks or Halfback with Siro. The experience in the halves will be needed and if Richards gets injured who will take over our goal kicking duties?

I still don't see any reason forcing him out early when he has another year on his contract. Who are we forcing him out to make way for? Just keep him

Experience alone should not be why a player is picked. It appears to be the only reason why people want Anasta.

I think his defence is solid, his passing game is pretty good and his kicking game isn't bad. He makes a decent half. My issue is why play him there and not give another player a chance to see if they have it in them.

Then again next year you could play him at 7 and Sirro at 6 and slowly bring Brooks and Moses into the team.

Experience should be a deciding factor if you have two equally skilled players, but one is more experienced than the other.

But there isn't a spot on the field where that works in Braith's favour.

Cut him loose

I agree with BrotherJim. Unless we are replacing him with someone for next year than why cut him loose now? I think he's been a dud buy, but he will still be handy to have on the books for 2014. Then cut him loose.

There's no point having him on the books for this season, let alone next. Benji will play out the year in the halves with Sironen and Brooks will have a running five-eighth in Sironen who won't be over calling him next year. I can't see him being happy to be a backup half and he's now effective in the backrow.

Anasta is a bit like Lote, their best days are behind them and they both struggle to compete in the modern game.Unless he is 5/8 and dirrecting the team about he is of no value to the WT.

At the rate we are cleaning out players we'll have about 5 players in our top 25 next year with 100 first grade games to their name, along with about 10 who have less than 20. I would definitely hang onto Braith for another year, he's a leader and has plenty of experience, something we will be lacking. If some of these kids have their confidence shot next year it could do huge damage to their progress.

I remember him regularly bagged by many other fans before he came to us, I also remember him playing with drive, hunger passion....you could see it in his eyes.

Havent seen that in him in a Tigers jumper...like Benji, more dead time

Guys, I understand that he is not the best buy in the world but WHY RELEASE HIM? There are no players in market so just keep him for a year.

Why release him? Thats funny.

Have you not seen him play the last four years?

Your missing the point. Lets say Brooks is not ready for first grade next year. Or maybe he is but Siro gets injured. f**k it, with our injury history lets say they both get injured.

What halves combo do you suggest? Who will take over kicking duties? Lawrence at 5/8 and Fulton at Halfback? Sounds funny but could be a reality

Brother Jim you are spot on imo. People around here are jerking off over 2 kids who have never played 1st grade. From what I have seen Moses is no where near standard yet. I wonder how many singing his praises have even seen him play or whether they have just jumped on the bandwagon. Brooks looks the goods but he is untested and may fail. Sironen is a ball playing lock imo. Anasta's best days are behind him but he has the experience and level head needed when the pressure is on. I would not actively recruit Anasta but since he is on the roster it makes no sense to release him. The last thing Wests need are injuries creating another Fulton / Lawrence in the halves debacle and we have no depth in this position.

Bradford Bulls have been given first option on Anasta from Mick Potter who has spoken to Francis Cummins to alert him of his sudden avalibility. Anasta is very open to moving to the Super league.

Its thought we have quickly offered him a 3yr deal. if he signs it only he will know.

I knew Potters ties to the UK would come in handy.

Could have signed Luke Kelly to play NSW Cup as back up 7 and Dane Chisholm as back up 6, possibly even the back utility on the bench.

Both combined would be cheaper than Anasta and provide more to a team than Anasta ever will also.

Spot on. People that are asking for him to be released immediately have no idea. Yes he is adding no real value to the side in the backrow, BUT it's called having back up and we all know our injury history. We are not going to be buying anyone for next year to replace him so it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to release him. Who cares if he even plays 1 game of first grade next year, hopefully he doesn't need to. But we need to have some sort of depth.

If they let him go, IMO it's why they should chase Wallace if the price was right. We need a teacher for these kids.

We can't get for example the Johns brothers down for 3 hours a week during the off season. We need someone on hand and more importantly, someone on the field to help these kids.

Having an experienced player means we have someone telling 30 year olds where to go and telling Robbie that he (the half or 5/8) that he is in charge. Brooks isn't going to do that.
