Anasta being released?

Spot on. People that are asking for him to be released immediately have no idea. Yes he is adding no real value to the side in the backrow, BUT it's called having back up and we all know our injury history. We are not going to be buying anyone for next year to replace him so it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to release him. Who cares if he even plays 1 game of first grade next year, hopefully he doesn't need to. But we need to have some sort of depth.

We can buy depth.
We can do better with the 200k saved. Plus we have so much cap space to play with we will be in the market for some real forwards.

I'm not fazed either way, whether we keep him, or he goes early. He was always going to be a fill in until the younger ranks gained some more experience.

If its true he is looking to ESL, as with Marshall, it was either jump now or accept your marketability will decline by the time you are a free agent.

At WT, he was a below standard backrower and his preferred position at 5/8 is covered by Marshall. He was shoehorned in as halfback but it looks as though Sironen will have that gig for the rest of the season. AT best Anasta staying at WT means filling in as a backrower which even he admits he doesn't really like, or spending time as on the interchange. Neither option good if he wants to keep playing beyond 2014.

I hope the right decision is made for all concerned.

WHO? Name these players that we can buy for 2014. There is nobody in market that is available/wants to come.

2015 will be a completely different story but Anasta will be off contract then and it won't matter.

How about Jack Madden as an option? He has played the whole year in NSW Cup which is a good effort for a young fellow.

If they let him go, IMO it's why they should chase Wallace if the price was right. We need a teacher for these kids.

We can't get for example the Johns brothers down for 3 hours a week during the off season. We need someone on hand and more importantly, someone on the field to help these kids.

Having an experienced player means we have someone telling 30 year olds where to go and telling Robbie that he (the half or 5/8) that he is in charge. Brooks isn't going to do that.

There is no way Wallace should be signed. He is dreadfully slow. Wouldn't have made a line break in 3 seasons

Anasta's best game was against Melbourne when he paired with Marshall in the halves. I can't understand why he was moved back to the forwards. It's far too much of a risk to have rookie halves starting 2014

He is really not required in the forwards is he. He isn't hardworking or an impact player. I do think he has good defence and is a smart player so he can fit into the halves no problems.

The only thing is that I would prefer Sirro and Brooks or Sirro & Marshall at this point.

You will not see Moses and Brooks starting as the 7 and 6 combo in 2014. Brooks and probably Siro will be the the 7 and 6 and maybe Moses in the no14 role. Although I think it will be mid 2014 before we see Moses have a run in a comp game and I think barring injury and of course if they are both still at the club Brooks will be our starting no7 from round one

Anasta was always a bad signing. No other clubs were interested. He is running on old legs clearly. Even in the halves he won't make much of a difference these days. I feel a bit sorry for him playing this role in the backrow, which he clearly is not up to and probably wants nothing to do with. Some people say keep him around for experience and depth. For me, he is as good as finished and we should let him retire or go to england for a couple of years. The quicker we get the rebuild going the better. We have some experienced players in Farah, Galloway, Fulton, Richards, Blair, Lawrence for next year. We don't need any more 'average" experienced players.

Mick potter said on the Abc tonight when asked who would be our halves combination next year words to the effect that Brooks will be half , Anasta likely to be his partner at five eight with perhaps Sironen and that Moses had the skill but needed some time for the physicality. I would think Sironen will be playing back row off the bench

Robbie was on triple M on Thursday night & said that we would probably see Brooks in first grade before the end of the year, I imagine they are just waiting until we are officialy no chance of making the semi's so they can bring him through for a taste without any pressure. So once we lose tonight, I wouldnt be surprised to see him make his debut within the next month.
He also said Moses was a long way off first grade due to his lack of size, so I wouldn't be expecting him to debut for a while.

We might be able to afford to lose 1 of our last 7 games to make the finals. Our Pts difference though is killing us.

I've seen enough of Anasta tonight to justify him being released. I don't want him next to a talented young half.

Anasta really looks poor at the moment. I hope he isn't one half option for next year because I don't think he has it in him anymore.
