Anasta

I don't get the comments on Moses. Why would he be torn to shreds. Did you see some of Austin's defense out there.

Actually, I'd love to see Moses or even Anasta defend in the middle like Austin has had to this year. Let's throw a five-eighth in to defend in the middle of the park and then shit all over him when he doesn't quite live up to the standards set by a man who holds the record for the most number of tackles in a single match at the toughest level of football.

I'm not comparing Austin to Robbie. All I'm stating is that the argument against Moses based on his defence is not a good argument. Give Moses a chance and see how he goes.

Have you ever seen him play and what his defence is like?
Once or twice...how many games?

His defence is not up to first grade standard.

Lets try reality for a second. Your opinion means jack shit. See how he goes. His defence looks alright in the lower grades but we won't know until he gets a chance.

Of course we can go off your stupid freaken opinions but we all know that you are just speaking bullshit.

Alright in lower grades won't cut it in the NRL. He's very lightweight. Brooks is nearly 10kgs heavier than him, despite being an inch shorter.

You can't easily hide two small guys in the defensive line, especially when most of our backrowers are not great defenders.

Lets give the best option that we have a chance without being so sure he won't be able to handle it.

Seriously these comments show some of you have no idea what you are talking about. Defence is more than just how much the player weighs. I accept it makes a difference but its not the only factor.

The fact remains if our forwards dont aim up it doesn't matter who is 5/8.

But you still need a 5/8 that the opposition at least thinks is some kind of threat.

At the moment they can just hone in on Brooks, because they know that Anasta offers absolutely zero in attack

Austin has been going like a busted lately, but he should be given more time at 6.

The opposition has to respect his zip and the fact he takes on the line - two things lacking with Anasta.

Sironen will at least take on the line, play direct and provide an option.
Will attract defenders at least.

At the moment defences can just hold off Anasta and focus on the ballrunners which then have no room.

As I suspected.....you have never seen him play.

I remember reading in this forum about how Ayshford and Moltzen were going to be the answer to all our problems. And how Lui was going to save us. And that Jacob Miller was a sure thing.

Seems there's always a better option coming through the ranks.

Until they hit first grade and we find they're just another kid with bright lights shining in their eyes.

I really hope Moses gets held back until he's good and ready...

I've seen him play a couple of times and his defence was fine. His passing and kicking game look really solid. I think he deserves a chance. Brooks is handling the step up well but he needs some help.

Austin is better than Anasta but I just think Moses looks the best option.

Bad mouthing Austin's defense is ridiculous. He's defending in the middle as a hooker and it's clear this is not his best position. Austin is capable of defending the line as a 5/8 and once he has enough game time to build a combination with Brooks we will truly know whether he deserves the jersey.
When Siro played at 7 last year he was awful. When he moved to back row he started killing it. His future is not in the halves, its in the back row. Give him 4 more games and we will see his value.
Moses is a big question mark. If we go back to 4 forwards on the bench and consistent defense and go-forward being laid down by our pack, then maybe we can hide Moses in defense.
Moltzen needs a good stint in NSW Cup to get match fitness back before he's considered for FG

If I don't see Austin wearing 6 soon I'm going to lose my shit

The one try scored through his lazy defence was because of his technique.

He grabbed at the shoulders of the ball carrier.

I don't care where you are in the defensive line, this form of defence will never be good enough.

He rarely goes low, he's always going up around the shoulders, its like watching Benji in defence.

He holds his spot well in the defensive line, but he doesn't use his shoulders enough.

Sironen should have been brought into the NRL side at five eighth for a month and then moved to the back row.

He needs match fitness and we need a ball player on both sides of the ruck who is prepared to take the line on.

Austin has a tendancy to drift sideways for a bit too long. Simona has suffered all year due to Anasta/Austin. Anasta's slow service means Simona doesn't get a chance to wind up or get any room and Austin hangs onto the ball for too long.

Austin is undoubtedly better than Anasta, but I just don't think either are good enough at an NRL level.

Add Moltzen to that list and we have a dearth of depth halves but lack a genuinely decent option for the five eighth role.

Moses better be packing on the meat to his upper body.

I thought Austin got called offside and pulled out of the tackle more than anything else. Still should of gave away the penalty especially seeing that Teddy was running back after taking a knock.

I think we need to lock Moses in a gym for the entire off season with nothing to eat except protein !!!
If he can get his upper body mass up, and tip the scales at around 90kgs he'll be just right and he should compromise any of his speed either.

Being 10kgs heavier, in upper body muscle will improve his confidence in defence as well.

you do realise that the allegations of peptide use were related to injury recovery right?

That paritcular try wasn't because of Austin's techinique. He got caught in no mans land between marker and the defensive line. Yes it was arm grab but it was because of the position he found himself in.

It didn't look pretty for Austin but if you watch the replay again you will see that it was just as much Sue's fault as anyone. He was lazy in getting across and plugging that hole. There shouldn't be a hole that big in the defensive line behind the markers to start with. Otherwise everytime the marker misses a tackle there'd be a line break. Maybe that's what Heighnington's been trying to do for the past 5 years.
