I agree, Ossie was in Melbourne convincing them to release Cronk so we can have a halves combo of 6. Cooper 7. Cronk. This is all a smoke screen to keep the pressure off Mortz and Robson and their run to the GF.

Absolutely stupid.

Anderson hasn't really been given a chance yet!

He came to the club last season, got handed a roster in disarray being led by a 2-bit loser (Finch) who makes a habit out of overplaying his hand in the halves at every chance. Good decision to sack him (and save $700k) - but left the club with no halves (thanks Hagan for buzzing off Maloney and Hodko).

No options to really sign a half for THIS season (Poore, Shack and Tahu all added). So still hasn't been given a real chance with the kind of squad he wants, but is clearly SHAPING it his way (ie not paying overs for Inu, Mateo or Grothe - 2 "slackers" whose attitude might rub off on others? and the other a blockbusting winger, but no winger is worth $250k).

There's a bankload of money to spend, but rather than flushing it on a hack half (KK) wanted to go for the moon for a 'real' half (Cronk, Orford), or at worst, an experienced campaigner who could teach Morts (Barrett, Kimmy). You can't sign people JUST because you have cash - and unfortunately none of those worked out.

DID sign Mortimer to a big deal (between $180-250k per year depending on whom you believe). Personally I'm a fan of that move while admitting that Mortimer has been utter crud this year (and DEFINITELY caused us to lose v Broncos and Newcastle in back to back weeks with his uncertainty etc).

Anderson's style is hard working forwards, scheming halves and blockbusting outside backs who run nice lines. He has a team of floaters and fairies and jinking forwards - but still managed to get them on a roll and into the GF last year (I'll give him credit for being the best team in the comp last year - Melb were playing with themselves!!)

But to sack him for not delivering when he hasn't even had the type squad he wanted? Absurd.

Having said ALL that, I am a huge fan of Kearney as a coach....

Hmmm not making the finals and allegedly going to be told his services are no longer required? Who would want to coach at the club if that is to happen every time they miss the finals???

Exactly, unless its a $1 mill per season contract. Then the pull of the $$$$$ may be stronger than the love to coach the Eels

DA has an exemplary record when it comes to getting the best out of teams that underperform. I for one would like him to stay on as he calls a spade a shovel !

My mate's dad showed Kearney three houses in Parramatta today...

Lol. Here we go again.

Seriously, Ando needs another year. Sacking him is crazy. If this is true then our player recruitment for next year is suspect. You don't look at replacing a coach who has made a big signing do you?

If this is true - the bit about Ossie being told to scout out options if the team doesn't make the finals under DA - then I'll lose all faith in the current Board.

Cutting employees' contracts early is not how you build pride and passion imo. It's abysmal behaviour, that will just keep the club in a bad cycle. Chopping and changing the coach every second year when there's an election coming isn't the way to get the best out of our playing squads.

It was the current Board that made big election promises about delivering our on-field performances (after DA was already appointed) - it should be the current Board that is accountable if they didn't deliver what they promised by the next elections. But instead, like a bunch of short-term self-interested politicians, they point the finger at everyone else but themselves...
