"Mezz" is a flash in the pan. Mezz is 22 years old, if he doesn't live up to his hype this year, he'll be looking for another club. He needs to take a laxative to maintain consistency.

He is living up to his hype ...

he's scored a thousand trys and made 1000 line breaks.......and all because he isnt being wasted on the wing

but the fact is, peachey still deserves his spot so there's no way mezz will get it.

we will lose mezz, i have no doubt......unless peach announces his retirement some time soon

If i was rapes i'd give him the utility bench spot bench spot. Give him a shot closer to the action...... if he fails he fails

i'd give birds spot to hilder

Sullivan to 9

mezz to #17 ....similar to mat bowens role in origin a couple of years ago .......imo he is worth retaining, and the only chance we have of retaining him is by giving him some game time .........he's just about the form player of premier league, lots of clubs will be throwing him contracts.......

he's twice the fullback simmo will ever be .........replacing a great man like peachey with an unc like simmo would be devastating

hilder is capable of 80 mins, but imo his attacking game is lacking due to fact he makes 40000 tackles a game..... we already have enough 80 min players as it is

earlier in his career when he was coming of the bench he was much more effective in attack. he throws a better pass than bird, he tackles better than bird, and his kicking game is better than bird(roll back the tapes to 2003). Its a no brainer

IMO its a win win situation ......sully finally gets a chance to prove himself as an 80 minute hooker, hilder gets his chance to be an attacking strike forward that can also tackle his balls off, and we get a slim chance of retaining merrett, who in 1-2 years time has the potential to be an invaluable asset

Bird has been quite good this year (apart from beng suspended AGAIN). I dunno, I don't know that Sully can handle the workload. Hilder at hooker is good IMO.

I agree hildz has been ok at hooker lately .......for the 1st time ever he even resembled a 1st grade hooker in last weeks game

But imo it comes down to this .......In the next two years, which retiring player is going to leave the biggest hole in our team .....peachey ....a no brainer....

We have plenty of depth in the forwards, and imo, dropping, or reshuffling one or two of them for the time being in order to blood a potential replacement for peach is sensible management

Hilder wins over Bird any day ! Bird must be the easiest play on our team to read. His close in attack is just a right foot step , he never passes close to the line either ,u dont need many defenders to bring him down . Ok Ive really lost faith in this guy.

Sounds very nice in theory Cheese, but who would you swap Mez with off the bench? Assuming Peach still plays the whole game...

I am not comparing Bird to Hilder, please don't make that assumption. For me they are playing different positions. So you can't compare them.

My opinion is that Hilder is too valuable to us in the first 20 - 25 minutes as a hooker and then for the remainder of the games as a second rower.

The question is not really about Bird at all. He has done ok in the second row but I'd have Stosic, Maiava, Galloway and Sully on the bench in front of him.

Leave Hilder at hooker though. Merrit has to wait til Peach goes. He ain't the saviour yet.

Mcsharkie.
Bird has one decent game this year. The others he was average or suspended.

That is not value for money.

Cheese is right.

If we are looking at using first grade Cronulla sharks to turn players into first grade standard players rather than concentrate on winning a premiership, then Merrit is obvioulsy the player to do that with.
Unless there is already problems between the player & coach.

Imagine us shaking our heads for a year watching Simmons compile 30 average beyond average, beyond awful first grade performances, Imagine being a player trying for that spot!!!!

I'd sub sullivan .....with hilder sliding into hooker ....with mezz playing a bit of a utility back role....like presso early in his career

one of merretts strongest points is his running game out of dummy half .....i see no reason why he couldnt slot in there if need be to .......i just think its important for raper to show him that he's in his future plans(thats if he is) before the june 30 deadline comes up

Like I said, the question is not about Bird. It's where Cheese wants to play Hilder.

Very interesting. Merritt coming on 10 mins before halftime could be very Sullivan-esque, but with more place.

He has the ability to run rings around blokes, so it would be very interesting to see...

Of course, I doubt rates would ever consider it.

Franze was a good purchase.
agreed. i think reick was ok too

you're obviously been spending too much time gazing at stevo's rear !

So before Franze got injured and he was being tipped as a future NSW centre, many people calling him one of the rookies of the year, you where calling him a dud?

Nice one!
