Andrew Johns kicking game is not on... what can we do?

See what I did there? I rated a players performances based on one single game in adverse conditions and demanded a complete reshuffle to the squad to compensate for one problem that could probably be weeded out through hard specialist training.

Don't do it. Don't demand blokes getting dropped because they missed a few tackles. Don't demand blokes getting dropped because they don't bust the line enough. Don't think blokes should get dropped because they get found out in certain areas of their game.

Everyone has a weakness, and everyone has a bad game. Even Johns had an ordinary kicking game today. A reoccuring theme is not 3 games in a row. If your going to demand players get dropped, at least have good reasons why the back up would do so much better. Everyone aside from the greats like Johns and Beds have flaws in their game, learn to be patient and realise the difference between costing us week after week and being a mere 'room for improvement'.

Agreed. Every weak ther is some knob coming in here singeling out a players performance. It's rediculous.

He almost kicked a good 40/20. But yeah apart from that it wasn't his best effort kick-wise. Kidley actually did a great kick to force the Tigers into the in-goal at one stage.

But yeah drop Joey to PL to get him to sort his act out I reckon.

You make a good point. You have to draw a distinction between underperforming players though.
There are three types:

1. Always under-performs with the exception of one game every 5 rounds where they do enough to somehow justify keeping them for the next 5.

2. Has good and bad games, and a lot of mixed games. E.g. Misses tackles but scores tries OR knocked on three times but scored the winning try with a 90m solo effort OR made three big runs but went AWOL for the last 30.

3. Occasionally has a shocker, but generally performs pretty well.

Johns is in the 3rd basket -- his poor performances are still pretty good (even on a bad day he set up two of our three tries). Kurt Gidley is in the second basket -- he does some pretty good things, but also has some poor moments (mainly because of what position he plays, but that's another issue). Brian Carney is also a case-in-point -- makes stacks of metres, but leaves holes you could drive mining-trucks through in defence. I'm not cruel enough to select someone for the first number -- I don't think there is anyone in our team anymore like that. Even Quinn and Carmont have progressed to the next level.

Brilliant thread, glad I took the time to read it. I retract my previous statement about Brian Carney letting in trys and apologise to everyone who read it. It was selfish of me as a fan, to point out an observation I had of the game.

Once again to all and sundry, I am sorry.

Its one thing to post 'hey, anyone else notice brian really needs to work on his defence?', but its a totally another thing to post 'who can we drop for brian?'.

Brians already in the side, not sure we need to drop anyone for him.

It was obviously a mistype. We all know his point. No need to point out that he made a typo.

Bleh, ironic typo.

Lets keep this in perspective, not many wingers in the comp defended well against the west tigers last season. Brian may not be superman, but at least he has a go.

I think the natural instincts will come later.

For the record, this is also wrong:

John's is perhaps the most consistant player in the NRL over the last 9 seasons.

Arturiu's'X'es'essess mistake is common. But, there are no obvious replacements for you ArturiusX at this time and, as a result, you will remain in the forum.

We all knew he only came for a holiday. Thats why I was so angry when we signed him. O got over that and realised how much he could help our club in one year. If he scores the game winning try in the GRand Final it will be the best 1 year signing ever.

And if he comes bolting in off his wing creating an overlap which concedes the try that loses us the grand final???

worst one year signing ever

I never liked the idea of siging a guy for the 06 season who has already signed for a different club for 07.
