It puts articles in perspective when you know the story about the author. Like when Todd Balym rants and raves about Rugby League in a negative way it's worth noting that despite him being an RL writer, he is an ex-AFL journo and pretty passionate defender of the sport as I found out on Twitter one day.

The idea people are tossing up that you have to be 100% into RL to get paid to write about it is weird. Crime reporters don't have to like crime and the guy that works in the obituary section doesn't have to like death. I'd write about garden furniture or polka dancing for $200k a year.

But RL fans have the right to call them out when it's required.

That's why a guy like Mascord is the bees knees when it comes to RL journalism. He is a league man through and through.
