The waterfront stadium would've been awesome but I think that ship has sailed for now. Looks like we either get an upgrade to Mt S or move to RU Central and not have a say on the board

right, so they have gone back on their word,,, again.

Don't get into me about the CEO bullshitting the fans, mate. I'm just saying what the gutless money hungry prick told a group of members...

Even if that is the case, it's not the first business to change strategy, it won't be the last, its not a revolutionary thing for NRL clubs to take one home game away from their home area, and for a season package I'd always be checking out the conditions before buying. Caveat emptor.

it's not the first business to change strategy,

totally agree.

It has to differentiate between whether it classes itself as a sports club or a business.

If it decides its a business, god help it. much more of the crap the members are served up with and they'll be down the shitter...

btw, I see on your copy and paste and membership booklet I have in front of me, that members have priority purchase rights for the out of Auckland game.

Isnt that double dipping ???

Not really...as it states clearly the membership is paying for 11 games, not 12. It's not like they're charging you for the 12 home games then only giving you 11, it's saying you get 11 homes games, and should you wish to go to the home game out of Auckland, as a season home supporter you get first dibs on said tix:)

Of course its a business, it has the structure of a business with private owners. Its a privately listed company. Nonetheless, the same situation applies to any organisation - all organisations adapt their strategy mate. I'm sure when you are farming you have a plan of some sort and you're always trying to get the best outcome, whatever you view that best outcome to be. Even that view itself probably changes over time.

ozbash, conversely I've heard a lot of people say the opposite was ... well, I guess you could say double dipping too. Trying to market themselves as New Zealand's NRL team, but seemingly willing to take and never give competition games back to the rest of New Zealand.

well, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

The Knights are also a business, but the NRL will bail them out should Tinkles suck the kumara..

Isn't the 11 games in 2013 the same price as the 12 in 2012? After the 2012 season their should be more of an incentive to be a member not less

Diesel, they have a right to offer different memberships if they think it drives a better outcome, the fans have a right to not take up the membership if they feel it's unfair or doesnt represent value. The end number of memberships sold will be interesting to see if the move worked. Agree though, 2012 was a horror show and times are tough.

Assuming worst came to worst at our club, I suspect we too would be bailed out but I would conditions on things like truly representing New Zealand would be imposed on them as a condition of a bailout. From what I hear though we are nowhere near that point. My understanding with Tinkler is he's asset rich, not necessarily liquidity rich.

I do agree with that, it's a bit stink there isn't a wee reduction, not only for the one less game, but in response to that utterly shit year fans were subjected to where even junior players weren't bothering to give their fans or club value.
In that regard I would say that is 'double dipping' as Oz puts it- You can't charge the same subs for 11 games instead of 12 and not expect supporters to go 'WTF?!':? Especially after putting out the begging bowl and using the guilt tactic to 'keep loyal.'

Easy solution to all this. Two words... waterfront stadium

I TOTALLY agree. What a disastrous and short sited decision at the time. If they had built that stadium, boy would things have been different now. Virtually all sporting teams in Auckland would be willing to give their souls to play out of there and Aussie teams would be chomping at the bit to get there. Instead we have the same pathetic outcome as we do in Sydney. What a joke our two countries are when it come to planing these things.

I mean how could anything in the southern hemisphere, if not the world, beat this for location? I almost cry when I think about what could have been. :(:(

That does look impressive. What was the cost difference I wonder between doing up Eden Park and going with this stadium?

The reclamation costs alone would be huge.

Be good though, footy stadium on one side, Vector Arena on the other..

Indintbknow the cost and I'm sure ARC rate payers would be paying for it however this is one really good way to show off your city or what your country can do, it looks impressive and imagine the worldwide audience in last years RU WC... A missed opportunity indeed

Wouldn't be far from Britomart either. But would it be purely for footy or would it be round to have a cricket field with drop in pitches
