Another Sam Thaiday dog act

At that stage he should already have been in the bin for running 20 metres to put a shoulder charge on a bloke with his back turned. Thaiday's a filthy scumbag, always has been.

20m get a grip.

He was right there and was in response to Vunivalu's unnecessary shove on Boyd. It wasn't the first time the Storm went after the Broncos captain and Sam fought fire with fire.

Not accusing him of being a clean-skin, but I'd much prefer a player stick up for his captain than just sit idly by and let it happen.

Otherwise I wasn't impressed with the Broncos conduct. They got frustrated with the physicality of the Storm's defence and had far too many brain explosions. I was honestly surprised Sutton didn't bin any of the players, if you're going to blow 12 penalties (eventually 13) and a lot of those are occurring in the red zone than somebody has got to go. Either Sutton was too intimidated or he realised how soft some of the calls were and couldn't bring himself to do it.

It certainly makes a mockery of Ben Cummins' performance in Round 1 when he binned Clay Priest for repeated infringements.

hahaha come on - right there?

Granted he was not 20 metres away, but he sure as hell was not "right there" either.

It's par for the course with Third man.

Not sure how much intent or malice was in the hand/finger situation, but I can only imagine how this place would meltdown if Gallen did that to a player last night......

Are we really going to get into semantics? Yeah, he was right in the vicinity when Vunivalu shoved Boyd.

Again, it was grubby but let's not pretend like this was some unprovoked attack either, at least tell both sides of the story.

And I'd imagine it'd be like it is now, trying to pretend that Thaiday is some protected species on here is hilarious. He cops it and a lot of the time deservedly so.

What did the incident have to do with Thaiday? How was he provoked? Anyway.

And if it was Gallen, we'd be 10 pages in by now.

It's his captain, if the referees are just going to let the opposition get away with cheap shots he has a right to stand up for his skipper.

The thread has only been up for a couple of hours. The usual suspects are probably waiting until they're off their break to dive in.

Not Thaiday specific, but it was infuriating last night how often the ref claimed he was going to bin someone after endless warnings. Warn the captains. Once. Then bin the player is they infringe the rule after being explicitly warned.

Bin the captain. He's obviously not listening or relaying the message, so he should go.

That is why the game did not settle down as he had made the threat but, when confronted with another penalty, he did not bin anyone. Hence the Broncos players in particular, who'd been threatened with a binning for the next infringement, would have realised they could get away with anything, as would have the Storm players for that matter. That is a classic example of how a referee loses control of a match.

It's one of the biggest blights on the game.

If the referees were consistent with the sin bin and used it more often the game would be far more entertaining and dramatic. Teams are being shown far too much leeway and the referees are constantly made to look like fools.

It's one of several issues at the moment, the other is playing the ball on the mark and the 'peeling off' tackle which isn't being enforced properly.

I don't see how Boyd being his captain makes any difference, but I do take your point.
