If what is being said about Gus is true...then will we see a return of the offload? Surely he can see we are rooted without it.

Struggling to find stats because NRL.com has gone to the shithouse. But this will give us some perspective.

2017 Most Offloads:

2016 Most Offloads:

Change of game plan last year and it didn't work. We looked far more dangerous when we kept the ball alive.
Interesting that in both years 3 of the top 5 offloading teams finished outside the 8. Maybe offloads aren't all they're cracked up to be?

I take your point though that we offloaded a lot less in 2017 than 2016.

The problem is we need second phase attack if we aren’t going to have set plays.

I’m more confident with Maloney that we can come up with some plays though.

So, on the back of the "Hook has 10 rounds to prove himself" rumor I took a look at our first 10 games.

Rd 1 V Eels at home = win
Rd 2 V Rabbits at home = win
Rd 3 V Bulldogs away = win (unless they improve on last year)
Rd 4 V Cowboys away = loss
Rd 5 V Eels away = loss
Rd 6 V Titans at home = win
Rd 7 V Sharks away = loss
Rd 8 V Bulldogs at home = win
Rd 9 V Cowboys at home = win?
Rd 10 V Knights away = win

So we should have 6 to 7 wins by round 10. I think anything less than 5 would be considered a fail.
Interesting that we play only 7 different teams in the first 10 rounds. We play Eels, Bulldogs and Cowboys twice.
We also play Tigers (Rd11) and Dragons (Rd12) at home which leads us into our first bye in Rd 13. So we could be on 18 to 20 pts with still half the season to get to 30 pts.
Time will tell.

I’d be thrilled with 6 or 7 wins, but we’re slow starters, not sure we can do it.

My best guesses, but it depends a lot on form and injuries:

Rd 1 V Eels at home = loss
Rd 2 V Rabbits at home = win
Rd 3 V Bulldogs away = win

Rd 4 V Cowboys away = loss
Rd 5 V Eels away = loss
Rd 6 V Titans at home = win
Rd 7 V Sharks away = loss
Rd 8 V Bulldogs at home = win
Rd 9 V Cowboys at home = loss
Rd 10 V Knights away = win

So I guess I can see us starting 5-5. Should be 7-5 with the Tigers and Dragons to follow.

We should win 6 or 7. But we should have won more than 2 from 9 to start last year off and we should have destroyed the Bulldogs reserve grade side.

We should be sitting above 50% win rate all season. No excuses.

Yes thats true. Silly to blindly use one statistic. Though its fair to say that second phase was a huge part of our attack in 2016 and ultimately what made us so dangerous.

Basically vanished in 2017.

2018 Panthers - Moylan and Cartwright...I'm assuming structured football. Though a few more offloads would be appreciated.

If Griffin were to get the punt this year, who would you guys expect to see replace him?
The first names that come to my mind are Hasler, Maguire and Toovey… anyone else I’m missing? Anyone in particular you guys would like to see as our coach?

Wasnt' Des a junior? ...or at least started his career at the mountains?....maybe he could have some fondness for the idea of coming back to where he started out

No to Des and his Souths mate. Demitrou or Ciraldo if either are up to it. Personally I'm in favour of getting some info on Ivan from Nathan and blackmailing him to come back.

Worth noting that Round 3 match against the Dogs will be their 1st home game in Sydney for the season. I daresay it will be dedicated to Steve Folkes with plenty of tributes. The Dogs could really be up for this game, especially as they will likely be 0 from 2.

That's going to be one tough game.

Des went to St Doms in Kingswood. I am pretty sure he did some teaching at a school in the Lower Blue Mountains before signing with Manly.

One thing I’ve noticed, there’s more people coming to the realisation that Hook isn’t the coach to get us over the top.

What rock have you been living under? People have been saying it for a while now..

That said nothing is certain in sport, I have seen far better coaches not win a title and far worse ones lift that trophy

No rock. I was talking specifically about these boards.

Some of his defenders on here last year I’ve noticed are starting to change their tune.

I have lurked for awhile and haven't seen any posters say we WILL lift the trophy with him as coach.

The coach is dreadful and will be gone by the end of the season BUT and this is a big BUT, Those that have been the most vocal will be complaining about the new coach by the end of next season.

It has been this way since Sheens was our coach will always be the way.
