If no coach changes anything & no immediate improvement was expected, why did we sack him at that point of the year in the first place? It doesn't make sense.

I'm not sitting here saying Hook would of went through the remainder of the season undefeated, nor am i saying anyone needs to change their opinion of him, but it's pretty obvious so far it's been the wrong decision. Lets not sugarcoat it, if Gus still got on with Hook, he'd still be here. A major decision shouldn't be made on a personal falling out.

Other then Melbourne & Souths (who are both starting to get the wobbles) no other team consistently played well or won during the origin period. You could probably go through every teams results & say similar or at least try & discredit every win like MX does.

I doubt anyone complains if Griffin got sacked in the off season.

MX was right though. Maybe other teams have it as well and that's their problem. Personally I think our biggest issue this year has been injuries although I think we do need a better coach. I'm partial to McGuire after his Matty Johns interview or Bennett.

We need an attacking coach to keep Gus happy though. So we don't get the white anting

My understanding was that we didn't sack him then. Hook was told no job for 2019 (after the board member spoke to Ivan about selling his house) and he told the club he was leaving immediately (and fair enough too). Have I missed something or are we just buying into the social media rhetoric?

Aaaaannnddd that is why our board is f**king dumb. Surely one of them have the appropriate soft skills to say “Errr wait a minute guys, this is a really f**king dumb move, let’s wait until the offseason.”

What possible difference would it have made?

f**king dumb. And some of them manage to run successful businesses. FMD.

Gus didn't want to risk Hook making the GF or better, and thus being untouchable. Hook quite likely thought he was untouchable for this season as it was, and thus didn't make much effort to appease the Fuhrer in the last days.

Interesting viewpoint. Typically you'd let the coach know ASAP so he can start looking for alternatives - this is a combination of professional courtesy and trying to limit any payout.

No one was to know Griffin would throw the toys out of the cot - particularly with finals around the corner. Why wouldn't he continue and try to jag a premiership? Go out on a high and give Gus and the board the biggest FU possible? Griffin's reaction was unexpected and caught the board off guard due to its irrationality given the circumstances. It might have been a valid emotional response, but not 1 expected in a professional, high performance industry.

Makes me wonder whether this was the first emotional response from Griffin with the dour, monotonous persona just his cover.

You've listened to Gus's podcasts? His firm view is that with coaches when its over its over. The minute the decision is made and the coach told, that is it, see you later, pick up your cheque next week. What happened is completely consistent with that.

The point was that there was no job for 2019. The club's decision was that it was over at the end if this season. Initially it was stated that Hook made the call to terminate immediately. Has this changed?

We wouldn't have seen a preview of the team under Ciraldo. So having him would have been a full 2019 commitment

We lost nothing in sacking him early. The team had been poor for months and this gave us a chance to evaluate Ciro and hopefully improve this season. In not improving this season we still got to evaluate Ciro.

We knew exactly where our season was heading under Hook. Sadly it's still heading there without him.

We had been playing poorly for weeks

But...

Sacking Griffin only a few weeks before the finals put a massive spotlight on a young team, I think we’ve gotten even worse since then. We don’t lose to Newcastle at home under Griffin imo. That alone could have us in the top 4.

No matter the time it was done would of been a distraction. Ivan was never going to announce he was coming to us during the season.. So that side of it doesn't match. It has just been a circus the public slanging match especially

And we'd have zero chance of beating anyone decent when it counts. Gus threw a Hail marry and it hasn't come off but I'm happy he tried at least.

We managed to lose at home to Manly under Griffin, so I'm not sure your confidence is justified.
We are not the only top 8 side to have lost to Manly this year. Broncos, Storm and Sharks are members of the club as well. None of them have sacked their coach, though.
