I presume the clubs bargaining power is somewhat deminished if their is no contract in place and the NRL draw is already released.

Having said all that, working in the.Government on this type of stuff in general, I presume the NRL has got the NT Government commitment in writing already. The contract is a really a formality.
Pfffft ... if they dont stump up the cash we move it to ANZ

So they expect us to believe that they can barely sell out a 30,000 seat stadium for a majorly successful team playing for another GF and also farewelling one of their greatest players but they have 800,000 supporters?

Given how they support their AFL teams and get massive crowds weekly for RL they just don't like attending games?

Not to mention, they haven't produced 1, not 1, non islander/Kiwi junior. You would think out of a legitimate 800k supporter base, surely some of those would of translated to an NRL level player.

I call bulldust poll. 800K real rijidij supporters would of created so many obvious positive effects that even a clown like El Dickknowssquat would have noticed. Massive growth in juniors and the house full sign going up on many of their games would of been just a couple.

The best athletes in Melbourne play AFL, Storm fans or not. Just like how the best athletes in the UK play soccer. That's why there are NRL standard English forwards but no NRL standard backs. All the blokes that might've become rugby league backs are playing soccer.

I live in Melbourne and there are plenty of Storm fans. On game day their jerseys are everywhere. And these people are all AFL fans too. If their kids are playing sport it's AFL or soccer. Why send your skinny white son to get bashed by kids twice his size? You don't need to play a game to enjoy watching it, and there are plenty of skinny white kids in the stands at AAMI Park.

You keep saying this, yet you have failed to mention why it matters if they are of islander background or not.

It only matters because it means that the game has advanced and captured the hearts of the wider community of the Victorians.

In other words to state the bleeding obvious. New Zealanders and Islanders already have a disposition towards Rugby and Rugby League, so it isn't an indicator of how the game is going in the hearts and minds of the Victorians when a NZer or Islander come through, not that they have had many of them come through either, but if we start getting other descents coming through, it actually shows the game IS growing in the Southern State.

You know just like how the AFL have managed to get some of our best athletes of different heritage to the elite ranks of their Sydney and Brisbane teams. For all the money that we have put in down there so far it hasn't amounted to much at all for the Storms survival in a junior sense. They still have to go out and get virtually all their 1st graders from QLD, NSW, NZ or the Islands.

That to me and any other non bias judge indicates that the AFL has really entrenched itself into the hearts and minds of the parents and kiddies of our league territories. League can not boast this with any real tangible markers. Just because the storm are a great team and people will always go and watch a winner doesn't in itself mean that the Victorians really give a shit in real numbers sense and a heart felt emotional sense.

As it has been reported and spoken by the NRL itself, to get people to embrace and really love a sport the sure fire way is to get them to play it for a number of years. Then those people will always be interested and will be considered rusted on supporters. The Storm is not producing juniors after all these years and to not see this as a MAJOR problem for the game down the road, is frankly niave.

Did you watch 360 on Fox this last week. They discussed the direction of the game. They said among other concerning things, that 20 years ago it could be debated which code League or AFL was the more popular sport and there was no clear winner. Not now, now AFL wins hands down on all the crucial markers and that it will not be to long before league will be a distant 2nd or 3rd...like in 10-15yrs, unless we have a change in administration and direction in how we spend our funding. I mean 5yrs and a billion dollars later and the league is broke, needs to get a bridging loan and has nothing, no assets to show for it.

Club and player greed and a weak and useless admin have seen to it. The game is slowly being replaced and the people who are meant to foster it and expand it don't care enough. All we get is self interest, lip service and disinformation.

What bull. If parents and kids, LOVE a sport a hell of a lot of them will want to play that sport. Period!

But you said earlier that if they play it they will grow to love it. So which is the horse and which is the cart?

Personally I think there's a reason rugby league participation is declining and that reason is bigger than any scapegoat you want to vent your frustrations at.

Society is getting softer, and most people want their kids to grow up smart, not tough. Not only is toughness seen as a less desirable trait for a person these days but in many quarters it is seen as undesirable. Obviously this is a generalisation - not everybody thinks this way - but it's on the rise, and accounts for the decline in playing numbers.

The AFL isn't marketed for toughness or brutality and so it fits the desired narrative. Yuppies are happy for their kids to play soft sports like AFL and soccer. Personally I'm a huge rugby league fan, but I won't be encouraging my boy to play the game. I certainly won't be telling him he's a bitch if he doesn't play, like my dad told me.

Israel Folau - oh wait.
Karmicheal Hunt - damn.

I'm sure Rammy will clear it up for us.

I mean, if Whitey has been in the NRL and AFL from the start, and our Indigenous brothers have been playing both for decades and decades, stands to reason that the "best athletes of different heritage" that the AFL is now attracting from RL are the Polynesian lads...right?

Don't be fooled. If Kenelly was in the papers for something heinous like parking in a loading zone, El D would have the story posted in TFC before it was even published and would have found out that his ancestors best mates cousins uncles farmhands sons best mate was a rapist fifteen seconds later....dude should just come out of the AFL closet
