NAITANUI%20Nic.png

Naitinui is the only Polynesian I think but he was born in Penrith as a kid then moved to Perth where he grew up to play AFL.

North Melbourne have an African American from Canada. There are the occasional Irishman who will switch codes as the AFL pays pretty well but other than those guys its pretty much Aussies only.

What nonsense replies by most of you again. None of you but Pou have addressed the topic in any intelligent way. Just crappy racist and inane prattle.

As for your society has changed reasoning for the decline of participation numbers Pou.

Well yes of course it has in this politically correct soft society and the Gov should/will fix everything for us world we live in now.

But it is all about perception and marketing. The game has come on in leaps and bounds in regards to violence, thuggery and the overall wellbeing of players, as evidenced by the concussion tests during games for example.

But as always the NRL admin haven't got a clue how to court the media and to get the positive stories out repeatedly as a chorus. And don't kid yourself, a continual Chorus of positivity is what is needed to change long held beliefs in the general public's minds. This is how the AFL works and wins the publicity game. They are the experts at this by a long, long shot.

The NRL, is almost always the loser when it comes to a positive image and don't kid yourself, image is everything in this game.

OK. So Pou's intervention appears to have pushed your thinking beyond some stupid one dimensional "we need more whiteys" type analysis.

Accept what you are saying, but surely you recognise that League has an uphill battle to change some firmly ingrained perceptions about what it represents in the minds of many?

Clearly, they also need to balance this against the expectations of welded on fans who are constantly whining about how they game has 'gone soft' (...remind you of anyone?).

To become truly national and to appeal to people in the way that 'softer' sports do then I think they would need to water down the product even further. If they did that I'd probably lose interest.

That's fine though. I accept that others would prefer to see it become really popular than to just accept it for what it is.

So how many Polynesian AFL players are there?

Well, you obviously don't remember or haven't read my many previous posts on this topic, to suggest that Pou's intervention has pushed me beyond stupid one dimensional thinking. Oh pleeese.

I didn't say it was going to be easy. The NRL has given away so much ground to AFL and positive image stuff that it isn't funny. But It is still fixable if the right quality management were in place. I don't see that happening though, so people like you, Pou and others will be right and take great joy in saying that things can't change.

The game has to get softer at the NRL level for it to have a positive image, is just nonsense. That is where great administers who know how to run a great organization make all the difference.

I have read all of your posts on this topic. At best, your logic is very simplistic. When others identify obvious flaws in your logic you label them as 'excuses' when they are actually facts or circumstances. You paint the NRL as a bunch of nuffies who haven't thought of the issues which is ironic when you show no signs of doing so yourself.

I didn't say it was going to be easy.
You didn't say how it could be fixed either.

Classic Ram. All bluff and bravado but zero substance. Let's assume that you have actually made a point and there is a big problem here. How would you fix it given the set of circumstances we have?

We could throw a whole bunch of resources and money into the problem but will it fix it if society has 'moved on'.

You can be busy telling people you've 'changed' or you can actually change. I know which strategy is more effective (which gets to a later point that I've made which you have misinterpreted...)

I don't see that happening though, so people like you, Pou and others will be right and take great joy in saying that things can't change.

So you actually agree with us? FFS. Why are you arguing then?

The game has to get softer at the NRL level for it to have a positive image, is just nonsense..

What evidence do you have that would suggest that more and more families would be happy to let their children play a sport where they think have a greater risk of injury than another 'safer' sport?

Again. You are talking in generalities and are devoid of substance.

That is where great administers who know how to run a great organization make all the difference.

More Ram gibber. What do these great administrators do that only you seem to understand and no-one else seems clever enough to spot?

F all and your point is?

Well you were the one who said that the AFL was attracting talented players of different backgrounds from RL ranks. So I was wondering how many they were attracting from RL that weren't part of their entrenched demographic.

It seems, though, that they suffer from the same problem you were bemoaning as a problem in Melbourne.

I'd also like to take issue with this. Ram you must be living in a bubble if you think that the Vic AFL media don't lap up the controversy and give it to the AFL / players when they can. To suggest that the Herald Sun / Age is all positive down there and that AFL HQ have some sort of control over the back page is pure fantasy.

You might want to ask a Victorian resident like @Poupou Escobar if the papers are sweet and complimentary to their game.

They love scandal and bullshit as much as Sydney journos. The main difference seems to be that a higher percentage of AFL players seem to come from that demographic where they are comfortable and not embarrassing when speaking publicly.
