Not sure about their skills, but I think it would benefit the game if NRL or ESL could offer any of them a trial or something. Here in China RL shares a name with RU, Aussie rules and American football, literally "olive ball", with the american game having the greatest exposure and RU comes next.

I think clubs should be looking to develop Chinese Aussies first. I´ve always thought that the first club who gets one into first grade, is potentially picking up thousands of supporters. From what I´ve seen, pleanty follow the game, often just to have a punt. So there allegances are still to be won over.

When the 2000 olympics were on i was walking through sydney chinatown and the chinese basketball team walked past.
I am 6' 4" and not used to looking up at people and honestly I was freaked out. I don't think I was even near their shoulders.

1.3 billion people, some of them are gonna be big bastards.

Most overseas Chinese are from south China, who are generally smaller than those from the north. Still, statistically, Chinese, southerner or northerner, are smaller and weaker. But there could be a group of bigger and stronger individuals, and given the sheer size of its population, the number of big bastards could be quite large as well.

Besides looking at the prospect of Chinese players from a body type point of view I think that from a expansion point of view China is important. Think of the way we view America, when/if China becomes the next superpower it could be the most important market in the world.

Is Alex Chan (Les Cats - formerly Eels and Storm) of Chinese extraction? I know he is a Kiwi by nationality.

I also have some vague memory of Asian player at Parramatta around 92 - 94? I have the team poster from those years I seem to remember that there was an Asian guy in the team photo - could be a false memory. I'll have to dig the poster out.

I terms of Chinese RU - I seem to remember the last time they played they were absolutely thrashed by Japan - 100 or so to 3?

I imagine the Chinese Army may have some kind of 'olive ball' programs? Or would such a game be considered too Colonialist or Western Imperialist or something...

The Chinese are not very good at RU. However, they have only been playing for 5-10 years.

RU is now played as an offical sport in the Chinese army.

Alex Chan is part Chinese and also part Maori.

North Sydney had a hooker Ho Kei Lau who played lower grades at Norths in the late 90's early 00's.
