He has carried on like a clown in so many of his fights, it was glorious to watch it blow up in his face like that. Hopefully he was thoroughly embarrassed and gives the sport some respect FFS.

I don't know how glorious it is to see the greatest title reign in UFC history end like that.

Gives the sport some respect by Anderson losing? You mean one of the only champions that tries to finish a fight is no longer champ?

I've never been a big fan of Anderson showboating... I thought the Maia fight was embarrassing for him.

He now has the most embarrassing knock out to go with the most embarrassing submission in MMA.

The thing I struggle with is how can someone so arrogant when he fights... Be so humble in defeat.

He's a real classy guy when he's not fighting... It's weird

I don't think he does it to be a dick, I think he tries to get under the skin of his opponent and get them angry, in turn they start deviating from the game plan and they start chasing him wildly, ala Forrest Griffin. He's 38 now so obviously the reflexes and reactions aren't what they use to be

I don't enjoy watching someone openly mock their opponent in the octagon, it's disgusting behaviour. To watch him arrogantly pretend Weidman was hurting him only to be starched and left unconscious, that is pure gold. He has had that coming to him for a very long time, Maia and Sonnen both clipped him in similar situations.

Your second comment is just silly man, come on. Cain Velasquez? Jon Jones? Ironically enough, Chris Weidman?

So mocking and disrespecting your opponent is restricted only to the pre-fight hype?

Silva earned the right to be arrogant with the most dominant reign in mma history. In this case, it backfired big time.

Yeah looking back on it now I can't help but agree with you there. If there is anyone in the world who can fight that way it is Anderson. 17 fight win streak I would feel untouchable too. Shit happens his plan didn't work, he got knocked the f*ck out because of it and I'm sure he knows that.

Still GOAT.

Did I say that? I hate that pre-fight shit just as much, case in point Diaz brothers. Outside the ring it's childish and only designed to hype up fights. Inside the ring it turns the sport into a carnival sideshow and doesn't show the proper respect for your opponent. Either way I don't like it and I reserve the right to enjoy it when it blows up massively and humiliates the guy taking the piss in the middle of a fist fight. People who are attracted to that are not true fans of the sport in my opinion.

For the record, I usually like watching Silva fight. He is a wonderfully gifted fighter in terms of speed and technique. Just don't like the clown act he trots out now and again, and I hope this wakes him up (if he doesn't retire).

Consider myself a fan of the sport and I don't mind a bit of showboating, as long as they fight. However, it should only be done by those in the athletically gifted department and used in moderation. The latter is what eluded Silva.

Such a shame they didn't go into OT for the Creepy/Mighty Mouse fight they they were supposed to back in sydney. That whole division could be very different.

Decisions like that ruin MMA, it shows that a take down with no damage is more significant than actually controlling the fight.
Such emphasis on the takedown breeds boring ass wrestlers like Ben Askren

I actually don't have too much of a problem with it...

I could see it go either way...

I agree that the emphasis on takedowns is too high... But In the same token... Can you REALLY say machida controlled the fight with his striking??

Machida is a counter striker who actually fights off the back foot a lot if the time... When you fight like that you leave yourself open to shitty decisions.

Oddly enough... He was actually on the front foot in the majority of the first round...

I have no problems awarding points for a Takedown... What I would like to see however is just as great an emphasis on stuffing takedowns.

IMO... Machida's wrestling was more dominant in that fight when you considered all his stuffed takedowns compared to the 2 takedowns Davis actually completed.

But unfortunately... Those aren't the way it's scored... And when you have a style like Machida's... Shit gets squirly when it hits the judges

It wasn't highway robbery, and you're right, Machida didn't exactly dominate the fight, but blind Freddy could've told you he won that pretty comfortably. He landed more significant strikes, and as you said did a very good job of controlling Davis' wrestling for most of the fight. Two takedowns that led to virtually zero ground striking shouldn't have been enough to sway the judges

Missed this card first one ive missed for ages, had no idea perosh was 40, holy shit.

Just from reading the comments re Davis/Machida I understand it was a close call but it seems Machida again didn't do enough to guarantee the win, he got away with it against Hendo but eventually it was always gonna go the other way. Still a legend.

Don't think anyone can argue that Davis won that fight. Machida wasn't busy enough true, but he was very obviously the superior fighter. I would have had him winning 30-27
