It was in the mid to late 70s. Played at the SCG from memory.

The two clubs have played each other in 75 premiership matches from 1967 to 2009 yet only three times have they participated in the same final series — in 1989, 1997 and 2000. The two clubs who came into the competition together in 1947, Manly and Parramatta, built up a fierce rivalry during the finals series of the 1970s and early ’80s; in contrast, Cronulla and Penrith have never once opposed each other in finals football. The biggest crowd to watch them in any premiership encounter was 25,004 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1978, but that day they were the second match in a ‘triple-header’ that was part of a ‘League-a-thon’ promotion. In a stand-alone contest, the only time the teams have drawn in excess of 20,000 fans was in the final round of the 2000 season. With both teams headed for a berth in the play-offs, 20,510 turned out at Penrith Football Stadium to see the Panthers thrash the Sharks 44–6.

In 1977 and 1978. The 1977 series was played on the Sat & Sun. The 1978 series was played on the Sunday and on ANZAC Day. $2 admission for each day. :)
