ANZAC/Pacific Test Match Ticket Watch

So this is pretty soon and all the hype has been pretty low for this match. An article in Newcastle Herald said the game was selling 'steadily', yet Vossy has said that this match is looking pretty bare in ticket sales.

And well, yikes. http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/event/13005063F792E791?brand=&tm_link=tm_sports_g4&hot_ticket_brand=

Going off the chart are are still pretty plentiful. Should this be a concern? Was Newcastle a poor choice of venue? Or is this all a bit early to be worried?

Note the last time Newcastle had a test match it got 33,000 and was a sell-out.

When the governing body puts such little value on a game that it announces it will be scrapped next year you can't expect people to queue up to buy tickets for this year. It might pick up but it probably won't sell out. They wouldn't get 33,000 in Sydney and there's shitloads of kiwis there.

City/Country is the same. When the NRL publically dismisses the entire concept they can't seriously expect people to buy into it, especially when they then take all the good seats and just leave the hill for the fans and still charge a fair bit.

It's just atrocious administration all round. As usual.

I think we should play more internationals during the season not less!! The international window thing is just starting to prove successful! I don't think having international League as just an add on at the end of the year is at all a good idea.. International window like Soccer 2 or 3 times in the year.. restore it to pride of place!!

All the talk is about f**king Origin.

It's a joke.

Watching Sterlo on the Couch with Cameron Smith the other week and they put a caption on screen with 'Queensland Captain' on it. No mention on screen of him being Australian captain.

If this sells as poorly as it is on track too, I feel it shows the challenge we'll have for the 2017 RLWC.

SOO dominates in season on the Australian representative scene

And playing a Australian test before SOO is plain dumb

Thats why C v C will work better it can use the hype of SOO

But that doesnt stop every other country playing internationals during SOO

Just move SOO to the weekend and then you can play matches like a 4 nation Pacific Cup between PNG Samoa Fiji and Tonga

Better yet play CvC and SOO over 2 fortnights separated by 4 club rounds

Lets Pacific nations name and fly squads

Even maybe allows for a England v NZ 3 match Test Series

So your suggestion is just to concede everybody loves Origin and no-one gives a toss about Internationals mid-season. Great.

Literally, the game is blinded by SOO. Some of the players being talked about for selection are laughable. Many of the world's best don't play in SOO any more. I reckon there will be 15k empty seats for the first one in Sydney too.

The hype will find the concept out over time. Origin has been really lucky it had that golden Lockyer, Thurston, Cronk, Smith, Slater, Inglis, Scott, Parker generation. But that won't last too much longer. I don't see many queuing up to be household names behind those guys.

I remember watching it as a kid in a less than full SFS.

Its only been just recently theyve been talking about this match on TV and radio, who ll be picked for both sides, but apart from that theyre so focused on Origin.

I can still see a good crowd at Newcastle.

I'm just over Aus v NZ test matches altogether. Would much rather watch the islands play, or Lebanon v Wales or something like that.

Samoa v NZ is the most exciting game in rugby league. The past two times they played are some of the greatest games ever played in sheer enjoyment value.

Is it really a surprise that players like RTS and SBW and Sam Burgess look at RU when they constantly hear the game banging on about Origin 24/7 over International games?

We get all the Aussie stuff in the UK now, including the feature shows and quite frankly some of the insular and xenophobic stuff is embarrassing. It is as if they ignore games like the Anzac test (a distraction) hopefully it will go away. Well thanks, you've got your wish now you can continue creaming over your state games.

What must some of the best players in the world like Jessie Bromwich, Shaun Johnson, Jason Taumalolo and Kieron Foran think when test matches between NZ and Aus get talked of almost as an afterthought? No wonder it fires them up - even whooping Aus x3 doesn't seem to make a difference.

Aussie Rules does not have internationals. NRL clubs already piss and moan about SOO, and would further protest to mid season internationals. NRL cares about ratings and dollars, and not losing footing to its competotors.

I would love to see mid season billateral and tri series - sltacking Wed and Fri nights with rep footy. But the clubs would blow a gasket and seek to prevent it at present.

Exactly they are obsessed with AFL when they really don't need to be. And they think they now dominate RU - which they probably do on the Eastern States. But meanwhile, the rest of the World moves on.

Honestly, if the ARLC invested heavily in the national team and it's promotion, merchandising and infrastructure - it could literally make a packet as 'the best rugby players on the planet" etc. They don't even need to look far for a model to copy either (AKA the All Blacks)

A state competition will always have a ceiling of interest outside those competing areas. When I was a kid Origin was huge where I lived because it was considered to be the best 30+ players on the planet, the best RL on the planet. Now half of the best players operate outside of SOO.

We won't hear much talk about the Internationals until the Weekend before when all squads are announced, then it'll be the talk of the town for the week.

I think the Pacific Double header will get 10-15k. They're doing a full week of Promos in and around Parramatta.

Not too sure what they'll be doing up in Newcastle.

This sums it up really. Meanwhile we have to put up with constant jibbering about the form of Trent Hodgkinson and any other half-baked player who is in contention for NSW.

NRL dont care about internationals

Doesnt mean everyone else has to as well

Just rin a international program without Australia
