Appeal (spoilers for Queenslanders)

And if the appeal doesn't go the way that the whinging fans want it to?

Its too subjective, its only fringe lunatic fan opinion (and some no-nothing League commentators, Hadley FFS??) who claim the certain decisions are "wrong" in the first place.

No amount of "looking at the rule book" is going to make your team win or lose.

MacDougall, just wondering what your opinions on Trent Barrett being incorrectly called held and Benji knocking on but somehow being ruled to have "drop kicked" the ball are?

WOW 7 years on and still whinging, only a dragons fan.

Barrett was held, however should have been made to go back and play the ball.

Benji knocked on any day of the week.

What do you say about Jeremy smith not being penalized for kneeing lote but then being cited and pleading guilty?

Not whinging mate, trolling. You lot deserved to win in 2005, and completely outplayed us, even if the 20-12 scoreline didn't indicate such. Smith was bloody lucky. As was Boyd for not being pinged for tossing it dead from the field of play. These things tend to even out in the long run.

I believe what you meant to say was "go shove your balls in a vice and your head in a meat grinder". ;-)

since when is putting it dead in your own in goal a penalty or reason for the clock to be stopped? each team gets 40 seconds on the dropout regardless, then time is stopped or theyre penalised.

After the game it was said that you can not throw throw/kick the ball over your OWN dead ball line from the field of play, it's one of those weird rules but nevertheless IS a rule. Therefore Boyd should have been penalized and the tigers have a shot at goal near 10m out from the posts 13-12 down with 20 seconds to go.

Ive never seen it penalised. Ever. Gower also did this in the 2003 grand final.
So if it really is a rule, its a rule that hasnt been enforced as long as ive been watching the game.

Well I'd never seen the rule 'a player with the ball in hand can't use an offside defender as a decoy as its not in the spirit of the game' penalised either, but Hollywood decided to pull that beauty out on the biggest possible stage.

No tigers fans complained about it, tbh it would have been a very, very hollow way to win a semi final

I was 4 at the time of that, but whenever i watch it or they talk about it. I just go "...How is hollywood still alive and more to the point, how does he still continue to have a career officiating." Hes horrific.

Was that in the 89 GF? I've never actuallly seen a replay of that game, just the John Ferguson and Steve Jackson tries and the Ben Elias missed field goal.

not trying to be a smart ass, but would you mind showing me where in the rulebook it says that? im unaware of any such rule. i could very well be ignorant of it. curious to see if thats actually in the guidelines.

he could have just held it and the tigers player would have simply tackled him in goal ie drop out / 40 seconds. in the replay you can see the tigers arms wrapped around him.

i think its a bit of a stretch to imagine any ref would penalise in that situation. but yeh...if you have a link to that rule, post it? thanks

They usually show it once a year on fox sports before the grand final. They show the usual suspects. 89, 91, 97, 99, 02, 03, 05 & whatever the year before was.

Mate I've never actually seen it as a rule, however I remember numerous talkback/sports shows mention it in the ensuing days. It could be totally wrong and was just Chinese whispers that got out of control. However make no mistake, people like John Gibbs, Matt johns etc were saying it as gospel.

Like I said IF the tigers won the semi in that fashion it would have been a very, very empty feeling. We lost the game when Marshall kicked out on the full with about 7 to go and soward kicked the field goal next set.
