Are the Storm the most liked team in the NRL?

I used to be an Eels supporter for 30 years and just got sick and tired of their "Administration" - they seem have the dumbest continuous management team in the comp and the most passionate supporters.

When the Storm came along (with the exception of some really stupid management appointments) I found I was supporting a team that was fighting for the underdog (League in Victoria) and I always like underdogs. If you meet any of the Storm players in the street they are not celebrities and they are happy to chat as they know they are underdogs and happy that you acknowledge their efforts.

If anyone comes to Melbourne to support their team I have found that the storm supporters (usually jibe them) but then welcome them with a "I buy you a beer and lets talk sh*t".

As a Melbourne supporter we know when you come down here it is a big thing because we have to travel interstate for 50% of our games. So we appreciate that you come down here.

Rounding this off, sure we, like yourselves, hate teams when we play them BUT we like the journeyman supporters that come down to see them play and if you hate our team - that's cool, but we will buy you a beer because you make the same effort as we do and basically who wants the talk AFL sh*t when League sh*t is so much more interesting.

Storm are not hated as:

they dont have a wanker for a coach... no players that whinge constantly when decisions dont go their way (finch, Kennedy, gasnier)...they are not in NSW...they are written about in the papers about as much as it rains in ydney....they play a good brand of football.

Diab, the majority that do dislike them are the Dragons/Tigers fans because of either 1999 or because of on field incidents with Slater and Williams.
Apart from that the general consensus of this thread this that they are not disliked as much as you think

Chucky, you said they were not hated. They are.

There are many more that hate them for various reasons. Read up.

They are not as liked as you think.

I did read up.
People said because the storm beat their team...wow...big reason to dislike them!
Because of 1999
The rest are just bitter eels fans.
The MAJORITY do not dislike them.

we've discussed this before billy.

events sell out in melbourne - always have.

if league is so successful, why don't any storm games attract near sellout crowds?

why have storm season attendances deteriorated over the years, despite the teams' continued competitiveness?

i can't speak for all dragons fans but i don't hate them for '99. sh*t happens & it could have been any team.

i just can't stand good money being wasted on a territory that couldn't give a flying f*ck about league. that team & its competitiveness deserves to be located in a footy stronghold - the central coast of nsw or the wide bay region of queensland. someone give me the logic behind the people in these absolute heartlands of footy territory being denied access to a team.

Cant stand the storm. Partly for being introduced while a whole bunch of leaguies were losing their teams, some which had been around for 90 years, partly due to the stupidity/arrogence of some of their fans (eg telling Sydney what to do re stadium etc) and cos they are a bunch of wankers in that side (matty geyer and king aside). In short i dont like that club.

Half of Western Sydney.can't you read or what.
Nowadays, western sydney is everything between Parramatta and Penrith. These are the outer suburb where half of sydney's population lives. Yes half of sydney's population lives west of parramatta. Now penrith's territory starts from St marys. From St marys to penrith 8/10 people will be panthers supporters. Blacktown to mt druitt is a shared territory. they will have all sorts of supporters. Parramatta to Seven hills is the parramatta territory. So i'm willing to bet half of outer suburbs have parra supporters.

Also, wests supporters are mostly in south west near campbell town or inner west near ashfield, balmain etc.

Err...no. Some of you people really need a demography lesson on Sydney...

Between the Parra LGA and Penrith are:
Blacktown: 273,000
Parramatta: 148,000
Holroyd:90,000
Auburn: 61,000 (Kind of, more south of parra than West)
Baulkham Hills: 154,000
Camden: 49,000
Campbo: 150,000
Fairfield: 188,000
Liverpool: 165,000
Penrith: 178,000
*edit*
Hawkesbury:77,000
Blue Mountains:63,000 (Not that it matters...Panfers territory)

The Area is shared between 5 catchments...With The North Sydney's Share (In Dural) completely negligable. But the Parra catchment IS NOT 1/2 of Western Sydney's population. It's a big supporter base, but hardly the massive one people make it out to be!

1. Imagine waiting till after midnight on Friday and Sunday Night to watch Rugby League for half a year.
2. Imagine sitting at Wentworth Park watching the rooster play a match or a training session agianst the dragons or playing at sh*tney Showground watching the bulldogs play the dragons or watching a game at Carara Stadium. That is what Olympic Park is like. A sh*thole of a ground.

We have had dickhead CEOs who trying to make a sydney style club in which it did not work.

For the past 18 months since a Melbourne CEO came into the storm, we have had improve crowd averages. Although, they are small but they are improving. Once the New Stadium is done, More people will be coming as people are staying away because of the crap stadium.
