He's run the nrl into debt despite record revenue and been in charge when the nrl's crowd avg has hit its lowest mark since 2004. the game is also arguably less entertaining than it has been for a long time with the refs, wrestling, risk aversion etc. they also failed in just about every major target of the strategic plan but he wasn't there for all of it so can only be partly blamed for that.
On the plus side he handled the eels drama ok and sorted out the salary cap without any bloodshed. Appeased the clubs by bending over avoiding revolution and has got some good deals for stadiums etc.
You've been reading too much Kent. The world's greatest Treasurer.
Let me state, Greenberg has his share of faults, maybe too conservative, too insular. Then again he perhaps looked at the ARU approach, and we know how good that was.
"He ran the NRL into debt ".Really .How about the expensive waste from Smith and all the expensive underlings? The money outlaid by Smith for Touch Football? $750,000 wasted on ALLIANZ
Money spent by Greenberg on contracting top female RL players?
Notice $200,000 of the NRL's Facilitie's fund went to the City of Mandurah to upgrade Ocean Road Sports Reserve ,home base of the Mandurah Storm JRLC.
Who created the losses and debts of the Titans and Knights and Dragon and tigers.Money spent by the NRL to keep the wolves at bay.Perhaps most the money out of the future Fund, hey what.
Who organised the TV deal and TV scheduling in the current deal? And is the next deal better for scheduling?
The money expended for NRL clubs was/is within the revenue via media Deals and a result of overlaps that are created.Anyone who works in business know cash flow issues, especially on payment tjmes corresponding with income times.
Any body setting a 20,000 mark for attendances, with crappy scheduling is asking for trouble.400,000 members, again who knows ,memberships have increased year on yearend with decent scheduling may well have hit 400,000.NO 6pm Friday nights nor Thursday nights in 2004.No apples with apples there comparison. How many country town NRL games played in the early 2000s affecting crowd averages.
Funny you mentioned "less entertaining "which is debatable. But guess what who are the experts at pushing the wrestling questioning refs, your team the Storm.
If they were into risks big time, they perhaps would have a huge debt.Conservative when you don't; have the money, slalsh out when you do.Not the Alan Bond approach.
