I'd recommend the leather fingerless gloves. They're tough an the fingers are cut off for extra dexterity.

this is the raaf flying gloves i mentioned , seriously will not get a better pair of gloves dor protection + dexterity, we all tried to get them off raafies when i was still in the army, they allowed weapon handling whilst keeping fingies warm.

they are made from nomes so they are also fire proof

the ones you say dont look good for dexterity actually are pretty good and as it says in their description they are feature Leather palm with external stiching for greater dexterity

it's the leather in those earlier ones that makes them look less dexterous. My brother is odd, he wanted something he could still use a touch screen with (and unpierceable, that does not seem likely), another brother suggested that we look at urban exploration gloves

+1 for flying gloves. They are a nice and firm fit, have leather trimming in the areas that are often used the most on your hands/fingers and are pretty resilient. And yes, they have very good dexterity. I am onto my 3rd pair.

I have no more suggestions that would come near the flying gloves, so I will bow out gracefully.

When I finish my degree I am going to try and get a job with the army as a rehabilitation specialist. I reckon I could get them to fund the research I want to do too.

I wouldn't count on it. With all these budget cuts they will struggle to fund you salary. Unless this labour government pisses off quick smart.

Pugzley seriously mate you have nothing to worry about. I am not being all Army is tougher blah blah, but you are going for the Navy and from my experiences botht the Navy and Airforce were very mild compared to the Army. When i was a recruit in 1987, there was the occasional touch up dealt out but truly only to the slackers. by the time i discharged in 1998 things changed drastically nowhere near as much yelling or abuse. One of the reasons i left was that it became too soft it wasn't the same as when i joined.

By too soft. Do you mean more civil?

BMI is 33.9 with the max is >33. So I have to be 85 kilos In 6 months. Hearing is abit gone in one ear but they said I passed. I have to visit an eye specialist. Psych eval was ok I reckon.
The BMI system is a complete load of shit and I can't believe the ADF medical officials would even consider to implement such a poor method of judging peoples health. If you learn a little about the origins of this ridiculous system then you'll realize just how much of a failure it truly is and how irrelevant the concept of it is to strong healthy people. Most bodybuilders are well and truly over the "healthy and fit" BMI range. Same goes for a lot of people who just train for pure strength, power and endurance. The BMI system breeds a weak defence force speaking from a physical conditioning point of view. A short person ripped to shreds with tons of real muscle would be classed as OBESE. This system is full of fallacies and should be removed from the medical world. BMI does not differentiate between body fat and muscle mass. This means exceptions must be made. So where does it end?
