I don't particularly like the idea of Daley coaching NSW again. Seems like a backward step to me. But when his competitors for the role include McGregor, Barrett, and Ennis ... wow, he might just have been the better candidate. Matt King apparently the other option. Almost with a shot with him...

Vibe check on Daley being made the new nsw coach for 4 years

to me it sounds like he went into the interview with Ballemy in his back pocket as an “adviser “ and nsw say this as a package deal and good way to get bellyache involved

Surely it’s going to come out that the people behind this decision were all Qlders.

Honestly I think this might be one of the strangest decisions I’ve seen. Not just Daley but Daley for 4 years.

Daley sucks and while I have no idea what Bellamy's role will actually be, State of Origin is basically the opposite of what I think he's good at (building a club, season-long excellence, etc).

I think you guys are being a tad unfair. If you combine Daley’s and Bellamy’s win rate, it sits at a very respectable 62.2%. That’s second only to the late great Ron Wiley.

If Sticky was also somehow convinced to come back into the origin coaching fold to form a formidable trio, that’s suddenly 106.6%. Can’t lose.

TBF to Daley he was coaching against the Dynasty QLD team absolutely packed with all time greats. Hard to see any NSW coach coming out of that with a favourable record.

However… some of his selections and tactics were baffling at the time and I think most NSW fans were happy to see the back of him when he was sacked.

He comes across as a bit incompetent at times. Remember a few years ago when he was on the panel to choose the man of the series and he voted for Billy Slater despite the fact that he only played 2 games and QLD lost the series and Slater would have had a hard time even being in the top 3 players of the series… hearing the quotes from Daley trying to defend his decision (when a lot of people were calling for him to resign as a panel member) was mind boggling to say the least.
