This is because he's a very good player despite all the hysterics of the past yr. Miles ahead of where Hughes was at this point in their respective careers.

was just saying this to a mate - he is instantly our most skilled half since joey. but like the other bloke in that conversation (mullo) its the head/ticker that is the ongoing question.

hopefully we get him here and show him the love Newie is renowned for, he realises how the first half of his career was wasted at a fickle club with fairweather fans, and he absolutely puts in 100% all the time to repay us.

So Pezet signing with Parra for 26 and after that…. Brisbane FFS

Those poor struggling Broncos
The Parra thing is a bit weird from the club’s standpoint especially when you consider Ryles’ focus on short term sacrifices for long term success, this doesn’t really seem to align with that. Is there much benefit in signing a guy for 1 season which blocks the path of another player who you’re more likely to work on long term? Unless they purely see him as a stop-gap and don’t feel confident in any of the other 5/8 options they currently have. In which case I assume Parra are going to try and sign another halves option for 2027.

I can sort of get it from Pezet’s standpoint given he probably won’t get much game time at Melbourne next year unless there’s an injury to Hughes or Munster or around SOO time. So for him it makes sense because you’d think he will get a starting halves spot alongside Moses next year so that’s valuable matches for him.

The only other thing I can think of is that if Parra are doing well next year maybe they’ll try to talk Pezet into staying longer and breaking off the deal with Brisbane for 2027, maybe by “trading” a player to Brisbane to compensate then.

Either way, you usually don’t sign a player for 1 year unless they’re a fringe first grader who’s unlikely to play a lot of NRL, or a veteran who’s more there for club culture and off-field standards, or if you’re a club who’s firmly in a premiership window and expect that the player is going to win you a GF. I don’t really see Pezet as fitting any of those categories.

Maybe Parra have a good youngster they want to introduce slowly? Anyway its going to feel great seeing both Pezet and Southwell play halfback for the Broncos lol.

Imagine someone told you that Best would lose out in the Australian centre jersey to Shibasaki last year. The world is a weird and wonderful place.

Brisbane have probably the best young halves prospect , Cody Black, in their lower grades already so it makes it weird from their perspective too.

None of it makes any sense

Broncs clearly are banking on Pezet and Walsh. I wonder if they will offload Mam. I can see it happening. They are just able to hedge their bets due to their insane depth. This is why a draft has to become a reality in this game. All this BS about a halves shortage and yet no club can get near one cos of contracts. All fair of course. But player development is huge what if in these cases. If they are that good a club be able to play them. Even if it is loan only.
Most people are gobsmacked Trey Mooney spent the year in Cup for Canberra. And if you look at his performance he was in cheat mode. He is going to go good here.
