Hunter, that statement puts an individual's well being ahead of the clubs. Smith offers nothing. Why keep him.

Eels dude, I answered your second paragraph in my previous reply. Read it again. As for the 'what if's', that attitude for people who won't try to improve. What if I waled out the front door and got hit by a runaway flying saucer? Do you suggest I stay indoors?

With your attitude, a car would never get fixed. What if the new oil seal was worse than the old one?

Maybe you wrap your cat in foil just in case it will protect it from alien transmissions!

Colonel, what do YOU suggest will make Parra the top 4 club that it should be. Do not mention injuries. Every club has them.

Either a case of extreme club walkouts
OR
A time machine
OR
A change in attacking/defending tactics. As well as buying a real game breaker.

i dont think smith at the helm is helping us much at all. but there is no evidence that we would be placed any better with someone else and nothing we can do about it.

Disagree strongly. Reason? The sucess of Brisbane, Sydney, Saints, Penrith, Bulldogs, Melbourne, Canberra: all on the same salary cap (bulldogs is actually reduced for 2004). Most with less financial wealth, less juniors etc. If we change nothing, how will we change at all? We have changed the player roster, and it hasn't worked. Obviously, then, we need to change the coach. It's bloody obvious!!!

Things do not just turn around one year to the next. It takes time to build a champion club. You said we have tried a change to the player roster, I think too much change has hurt us in the past and maybe a reason ATM why the team simply doesn't gel.

Melbourne turned themselves around in one season with very little change and despite some inconsistency the club is top four material. The addition of some youngsters the calibre of King, Slater, Smith and Johnson have helped immensely but the change of coach to Bellamy did wonders.

The roster changes have hurt us but we have a core group - its just a shame they are usually injured or out of form.

what i mean by that is id hate by making a change for the eels to drop lower than they are for many more years. Smith is a proven successful coach - one of the better in the league. It seems his time is up - i hope to god if he leaves that is the only problem - that he has overstayed his welcome. However, if the problems are deeper than that, get prepared for many many darker years.

Big Turn around as they fnished 5th last year.

The Panthers was a combination of years of preparation and a terrible 2002 season.

When did they change coaches? 2 years earlier. My point is that the change was good but it didn't happen instantly. It takes time to get a winning side.

If I'm not mistaken Lang joined the previous year, not 2 years earlier. And to go from 2nd last to first wihin a season is still a pretty damned good turn around.

They changed their coach towards the middle of 2002. They struggled and finished 10th. They ended up fifth last year. We finished ninth last year and are looking at finishing in the same spot without changing the coach.

So it was the year they finished second last! And it was well before the season started as well.

Eh! That's what I said. He took over the year prior to winning the comp. Started with them in 2002 with what Royce left him and finished 2nd last, very next year he takes them to the premiership in 2003. To do that within a season is a pretty good turn around in my books.

What are you saying, it took him too long?

The point is, DVD hunter, they changed coach and improved. We last changed coach in 1997, after coming 7th last. Last year, we came 7th last. This year, we will probably come about 7th last. So Smith is the answer???? LOLLOL!

Shooter, We haven't far to fall. If we do, will it be much worse? There is far, far greater scope to improve. All bottom clubs who have changed coaches have improved, bar NZ, and Tony Kemp has only had a few weeks.

And of the clubs currently out of the top 8, who stands out as having the best squad by a country mile? PARRAMATTA!

Yes, and the question following on from that is would they have won the 2003 premiership if they had blindly stuck by Royce Simmonds? Personally I think not.

Changing coaches mid season is not the answer.

A month ago, three coaches were under the pump.

Two went....and their sides are still a rabble.

One coach stayed.....and that side has won two and lost two, both times to top four sides.....
