Penrith are no more injury depleted than we are. Injuries are no excuse. But fairs fair, if you are going to call Penrith injury depleted then surely we are?

Actually Penrith was down only 3 players from their strongest possible squad - Gower, Campbell and Swain.

We were down quite a lot more than that!
We were missing Vaealiki, Lyon, Grothe and Dykes - probably our 4 best backs!
We were missing Cayless and Cannings up front - two of our better forwards.

So we had twice as much quality missing as they did - give us one of those forwards and two of those backs and the result may have been different!

I'm not happy with losing - but at least I'm realistic enough to recognise that the players on the paddock tried their best but just lacked a little bit of (injured) quality to put the boot in!

This year isn't over and I won't give up until it is!!

Finally we agree Colonel, we are a sorry looking footy team that is behind most other teams- even when we have more possession and they have to back up with injuries and origin strain-we come up short consistently- we have no playmakers and controll and no leadership-all these easy to please fans who are happy when we just beat the knights and thrash a poor manly side-well i can only judge our team on what they show me when the pressure is on and when good sides test us - we are very poor in attack-didnt look dominating with over 60 % of the ball against a side withuot their best playmaker and 2 other regulars.

Enough is enough- nothing will change unless we improve and we are not inproving in the areas we need to- i will say it again- love Riddle but our buying of him is desperation for that money- surely we can sign a half and five-eight who will control and direct our attack-if noone is out there we are in trouble!

I would make an offer to Russell Aitken-he is classy but young-he would be ideal!

Do we need another young and promising half?

Witt, Smith, Blake Green, Brett Delaney....... all have apparent future potential as does Aitken.

The list of promising halves since 1992 is endless - and most have failed to deliver.

In all seriousness I would chase Casey McGuire or Lance Hohaia for at least some sort of direction in the halves rather than someone with promise if the rumours regarding Dykes is true.

Colonel, from what I understand the club was only ever going to consider releasing Dykes IF we were able to sign Matt Orford. That didn't happen, so Dykes won't be going anywhere..........unless we sign Darren Lockyer ;-)

i honestly do understand what your saying, but your finding excuses within our team as to why we lost based on your feelings. your upset, frustrated and unsatisfied, understandably. but your arguement is full of double standards: backing up with injuries and origin strain if fine for the other team, but not for us? how is that possible. you must be forgetting that this isn't our preferred team on the paddock. just because the eels look a reasonable team on paper at the moment doesnt mean they're guaranteed of winning.

people claim we should have beaten penrith without their playmaker. where is our more successful paymaker? it certainly isnt witt, no matter how many fans have a soft spot for him. dykes is the man, and he wasnt on the park either.

you werent happy beating the knights? or thrashing manly?
why not.
you poor morose individual, get some prozac, i think prolonged 5-HT in your synapses might do you good.

yes, the good sides test us.
guess what... the good sides always test the good sides. look at the 2 dogs vs roosters games. think they didnt test each other. 2 absolutely polarised results.

we played admirably against two top teams. broncos and panthers.

and we lost.

so be it. back to fight another day.

(just for the record im not pleased we lost. or satisfied with how things are going. i just cannot stand flawed arguements)

too many of you are living in the shadow of 2001. dont expect 40 pt thrashings every game. doesnt happen these days. the competition is much fiercer.

if you dont believe its acceptable to lose some games then you must be living in some wacky reality. come back down to earth, get off that high horse you've been riding on, and just enjoy.

Eh! Maybe you should tell that to the Roosters and Saints as they don't appear to be playing by your rules at the moment.
In any case who was asking for a 40 point thrashing?

I think 7 out of the last 9 constitutes a tad more than "lose some". If you consider that ratio acceptable then it is you who are wacky

And for the sake of clarity I simply do not expect many wins at the moment so am somewhat content with being competitive. This is only because while Smith remains at the helm I think it is indeed a "wacky reality" to believe otherwise, his results over the last 3 years simply do not support higher expectations. Unless of course you also believe Smiths recruitment/retention policy and coaching methods of the last 3 years are what is reqyuired to deliver a premiership in which case I would consider it simple self delusion.

I have looked for positives but we are actually losing touch with all the sides- who are even under origin strain as well as injuries- ie. broncos and panthers.

We play too soft and our halves are shockingly behind where we should be!

Come on parra fans - we need a change- Smithy has had his best shot and come up empty!!

He has a lot to answer for in all aspects-from recruitment, retention, style of play and halfback options!

Give me a break- we look hopeless even with 65% of the ball- thats a disgrace-no imagination nor class-

We have been patient enough!

Firstly tell me when did you start supporting Parra?

Saints are hot and cold. big wins over the tigers and souths recently doesnt say too much.

Roosters are a class act.

7 from 9 doesnt sound too good. Since we've turned our game aournd, and played with enthusiam its 2 from 4.

i dont think smith at the helm is helping us much at all. but there is no evidence that we would be placed any better with someone else and nothing we can do about it.

considering there is so little we can change in the club, no matter how many voices cry out and call for a change, the only thing we really have control of is our on personal states of mind. and by taking a different perspective on everything at the moment we can enjoy football a little more other than dwelling on the negatives and being depressed about supporting our beloved club.

it makes sense to me anyway.

Craigie, they had Goweer, Campbell, and Girdler out. IN that class we had Cayless (and Killer - and his replacement had a fine game). Their halves were wingers a month ago.

Colonel, I'm not using injuries as an excuse. I'm not the one offereing excuses here!

As for relaxing and waiting for next years recruitments to kick in, didn't we all do that last year? As we sweat on Tate, Roberts etc, were we not last year sweating on others? Of course - and what's chagned?????

What's changed is that it will be a whole new year, with different players. Whether you like it or not ya gotta have faith in the club, the players and the coach. We've got to look forward to next year and hope for the best, there's no point in being glub about anything.

   to eelectroshooting. Your above couple of posts are the smartest i've read in a long time, keep it up mate.

Thats where you differ from me.

I only have faith in the first two things you mentioned.

I agree with Dudey Boy.

Great posts, and I don't agree with most of it. ;-) I just like your manner.

Eels Dude, you mean that there will be NO CHANGE. Yeah, the faces change, but the song remains the same (apologies to Led Zep...)

I make no apologies for being down on the situation. Being passionate about the club, and seeing it struggle, does that. I know others get thrilled by it, but I don't. Bugger me but bing pasionate about the Eels is a curse, and I wish I could be blase and not give a rats like some of you. Sadly, I give a shit about how the club is faring.

Dont misconstrue some peoples stance, blase may be a bit off the mark - although i can see how it comes across like that. passion comes in many shapes and sizes.

i agree with u misty 100% that we SHOULD be a top 4 team.

Not misconstruing intentionally - I just get sick of people saying that I should just be happy, as if I'm George Harrison visiting the maharaja over a karma problem!
