Australia
Shane Watson - 6 - got good starts, which was better than most of the Aussie batsmen, but lacks the concentration, patience, nerve, endurance to actually do much more with the bat. We are seeing him at his best right now.
Simon Katich - 5 - Looked good and comfortable.
Ricky Ponting - 2 - decent 50 in Brisbane, followed by a heap of innings of trying too hard, old tactics in the field and poor bowler selections and changes.
Michael Clarke - 4 - decent 80 in Adelaide and a semi decent 40 in Sydney. Captaincy was marginally better, but still if he's the alternative captain choice, things aren't going to improve much at all.
Michael Hussey - 7 - Started brilliantly, died in the arse in the last two tests.
Marcus North - 1 - Outperformed by the out of form Ponting. Thats how bad North was
Brad Haddin - 6 - Kept well and batted reasonably well, given he was almost always batting when the score had barely reached 150.
Mitchell Johnson - 2 - He'd have 0 if it weren't for Perth and his occasionally decent batting. But he's in the side for his bowling and thats what h's being rated on, and put simply, he was atrocious for 3 tests.
Peter Siddle - 6 - Wayward at times, short too often, but in the end, he was able to get wickets, and looked the most dangerous of all our bowlers
Ben Hilfenhaus - 5 - Bowled tight, which contributed to wickets at the other end, but didn't really trouble the bastmen much, as he was clearly trying to bowl too fast all series.
Xavier Doherty - 1 - Hopeless bowler who got sh*tcarted and couldn't turn the ball.
Doug Bollinger - 2 - played injured, but was also ineffective and got belted around.
Ryan Harris - 7 - Our best quick, without a doubt, our only bowler with more than 10 wickets and an average under 25.
Phillip Hughes - 3 - Started to improve in Sydney, a little bit of good form and confidence and he'll be a match winner.
Steve Smith - 1 - good 50 on the last day of the 5th test. He gets 1 point for that. Otherwise he was ineffective and a pointless selection.
Usman Khawaja - 4 - Showed good patience, demeanour and solid defence and ability.
Michael Beer - 1 - Another spin bowler who only troubled the scorers while bowling.
England
Andrew Strauss - 6 - solid and reliable without being brilliant. Good support for Cook.
Alastair Cook - 9 - Other than Perth, he never looked like getting out cheaply.
Jonathan Trott - 8 - You always got that feeling that after getting one of the openers out, you could hardly celebrate, because Trott was walking out to the crease.
Kevin Pieterson - 6 - A bit hot and cold, Great double ton followed by some poor batting. But when your side is 2 for a million, doesn't really matter what you do.
Paul Collingwood - 1 - Useless
Ian Bell - 7 - Good form with the bat, worthy of a move up the batting order. Providing good stability before the tail.
Matt Prior - 6 - Batted well and was pretty handy behind the stumps as well.
Stuart Broad - 3 - Couldn't get any wickets but bowled reasonably well.
Graeme Swann - 5 - didn't turn the ball much, but to his credit managed to still get plenty of scalps.
James Anderson - 9 - Possibly the highlight of his cricketing career. I doubt we'll see him bowl this well ever again.
Steven Finn - 5 - good support for Anderson
Chris Tremlett - 7 - Looked threating from the first ball he bowled.
Tim Bresnan - 7 - Same as Tremlett
