I've got my fingers and toes crossed Emerites isn't half empty. They are playing in a city where soccer gets 90% of media coverage and the other 10% goes to the Union Internationals. It might be a hard sell with eng playing against a side they have already piled 60 pionts on.

But surely in a city with a population of 9mil they can fill a 60k seat stadium.
40k sold already allegedly.

I think the story line is fantastic for selling tickets to this. England have their best team since the 90's, Samoa have shown since the 60-6 drubbing what the hype was all about and that they are actually a good team and they'll be coming for revenge. Marketers dream.

shame the govt made them play most of the tournament
I would argue that in hindsight, this was one of the things the organisers got wrong.

The requirement from the Government was to play 80% of games or 22 of the Men's fixtures in the 'north', so we could have moved an extra 4 matches to places like London, Bristol, etc.

Whilst playing those games outside of the heartlands may not have drawn larger crowds, I'd argue it would have possibly helped improve the averages up north, with almost too many games taking place at the likes of Leigh, Doncaster, etc which spread an already small number of people who could afford to attend.

Anyway, what's done is done. Most important thing is we finish off strong. No one outside of this thread will care about the group crowds if anyone but Australia can win the tournament and there are good crowds at Emirates, Elland Rd & Old Trafford.

England will make the final so the remaining crowds will be good

the development of tonga and samoa is the most exciting development in international rugby league in over 50 years

with the annual end of season internationals to start from next year the arlc will be able to always have six strong teams

the worry is the northern hemisphere. France are a basket case and super league has no chance development Ireland Scotland or wales

There has been little to no 'development' of Tonga and Samoa in the last fifty years my guy.

95% of their talent, resources, and infrastructure comes from Australian / New Zealand-born and developed players and administrators in the Australian & New Zealand systems. This has a shelf life of (currently, according to the international rugby league) 3 generations depending on migration.

Not there is anything wrong with that...(Seinfeld)

For them to actually develop then the best 15/16-year-old boys in the islands need to be identified and put into semi-professional pathways, League-playing Aussie schools, or some sort of scholarship program.

Australia, New Zealand & Japan Rugby Unions & in some cases French Pro 14/D2 Rugby Union clubs offer these opportunities to the best 50-odd Tongan/Samoan youth players every year, they also have the option to play domestic rugby to a reasonable standard. Our game will need to compete with that at some level to truly 'develop' pacific Island football.

Id add fiji in there as well.
the RFL could do a lot worse than set up jnr academies in wales and help out their welsh championship clubs more. It would lead to better talent for the SL clubs eventually.
hopefully we get Toulouse back in and that can only help France’s development.
back to crowds

semis
2000 24k (eng)
2008 42k (aus)
2013 67k (eng)
2017 53k (aus and nz)
that’s the targets

43kin London and 25k plus in Leeds would do nicely!

France is far from a basket case. Their 2022 WC squad was their best side in decades and the first time ever they had a fully professional national squad. They've improved heaps since 2006 when Catalans were introduced into SL. The thing is everyone else is improving too. That's great for the game

Couldn’t make the quarters

playing depth is poor

England don’t bother playing them in tests bc they would get belted

Lol

nrl providing players for England too

hudderfield didn’t even rate dom young then he goes to the nrl and becomes a star for England

and victor radley is really Aussie

the difference between league and union is union the all blacks steal the best islanders for their team whilst in league the sport is more open about them playing for their heritage

and obviously now league has taken over from union in the islands off the back of the World Cup exploits and international games

They aren't a basket case though. There's at least improvement on the horizon for France. Their playing depth is the strongest its been in recent decades and will only get stronger

Scotland, now there's a basket case

Samoa Tonga and fiji have overtaken them

maybe png will too

allowing toulose to be relegated doesn’t help which is another issue about why super league does little for developing international teams

I don't know what the development of Pacific Island football has to do with England, Dom Young or Radley?

Your other points are really not true. At all.

France will be ok. If Toulouse does not come back up they will still have 25-30 Super League standard professionals by the next World Cup

You have a good point. I would have had 2 games at a London 20k football stadium like Loftus Road or the Den (big Aussie/Kiwi hubs and Greek/lebanese communities in those surrounding suburbs) Bristols Ashton Gate 27k for one of the bigger profile pool games (England v France maybe) and St Andrews in Birmingham (18k)
