Ireland had that and were nothing against the NRL heavy teams, No doubt they will do something with the draw to see them through to the quarters

Tv ratings are a good gauge to see if the sport is connecting with an audience. If it's the most watched WC that shows the sport is and can grow its fan base. Being on free to air helps enormously, if it was behind a paywall the tournament would have happened without anyone noticing.

Its been a massive missing piece in English RL since SL kicked off. Being stuck on PTV only has held the game back. This opportunity on FTA alongside Ch4 showing weekly SL games now are major steps forward for the game over there.

Yep, absolutely. The rise of the Pacific nations has been phenomenal. But just because someone overtakes you at 150km/hr doesn't mean you aren't making progress driving at 120km an hour.

Toulouse aren't relegated from Superleague forever and will probably bounce between the Championship and SL over the next decade. That is not a bad thing for the national team though. Toulouse will continue to produce French players at a decent level and the best of those players will get picked up by SL clubs, just like the Hunters.

Re: your comment about the French not making the quarters, neither would Fiji or possibly Tonga and PNG if they were in that group.

This is very true and also the case in NZ. They are now on FTA and can build from there.

was positive to hear there was a late push in numbers for SF1, hoping for the same effect for SF2. Stating the obvious, but no doubt that number for the final will swell significantly if Eng win tonight. With the growing media the WC is reportedly getting over there, it should go close to sell-out if the do.

In 2013 the final was a sellout 74,000 for Aus vs NZ. So it should go close to selling out regardless of England participating!

I think if we were told that we could get 40K+ for two matches between England v Samoa before the start of the tournament, we would have jumped at it.

Almost 70K across two classic matches, I'm more than happy with that.

It was over 30K but one of the main sides was closed as it was being rebuilt.

Official crowd was 30,042, but yeah that was capacity at the venue at the time. There was big groundswell for both the England and Welsh teams at the time, they could have comfortably sold more tickets if they were available.

40K is a great result. We shouldn't ever think that it's not.
