The trophy is better than this one:

I think I saw somewhere that the bonus point area was added to combat the 'jogging' try that happens in sevens rugby when a defender gives up early because they don't want to expend energy when they know they can't stop the try.

It's supposed to be incentive for the defender to keep chasing.

This is the reason. Makes sense though bonus points for certain amount of passes would do the same

Yeah but you could only buy tickets to both days and not separately. I know about 15 people with Nines tickets going to Rapture just because its the first time Eminem has performed in NZ. They could probably sell off their day 1 tickets on TradeMe if the tickets are separate for each day

all for this, something different to watch which is exciting. Think we will do well but lack the pure pace that is required for these sort of competitions. One thing that stood out this season is the lack of guys that could pluck an intercept or scoop up a loose ball 10m out and go the distance down the other end and not get mowed down.

If JT is steering the ship then anything is possible but the fish hanging off hurrell who is hanging off mateo who is hanging off johnson is going to be hard to beat

Historically I seem to remember any team that was successful in this comp usually was a bottom feeder in the upcoming season.

If you're referring to the 7s, no. Manly won it in 90, 94-95, Balmain won it in 89, Newcastle won in 96, Brisbane were runners up in 92 and St George were runners up in 91 and 94. All of these teams finished pretty high in the ladder with Manly (95), Balmain and Brisbane going on to play in that year's grand final.

The 2003 7's was one of the best boys weekends ive ever had. The whole crowd was pissed by about 5pm the first day, streakers on the field getting coat hangered by punters when jumping the fence and running up the aisles, bulldogs fans having to be calmed down by the parra jesus who literally tried to break bread with them. Then you had robbie o doing a flip and losing the ball over the dead ball line, the rusky looked like they had stepped straight out of Ivan Drago's gym, chris walker being heckled by the whole crowd for being a f**kwit (nothing out of the ordinary).

Good times.

Roosters will be up there i think, jennings, RTS and Tupou with SBW's offloading.

None of those guys except tupou will be playing. Jennings and RTS are injured and rushing to be back for round 1 and I'd say Sonny will finally have an off season.

Dragons, Broncos to fail
Warriors, Tigers & Cowboys to go close to winning the comp

I think Titans will be up there as well. Idris+Taylor+Bird+Mead+Gordon+Kelly= Plenty of points in the Nines tournament. Not to mention Zillman, Sezer and Blair who could also do some damage, making me believe the Titans should be one of the best teams in the tournament.

Titans have got this. Eels could do well, and I actually expect broncos to do ok with barba, how can he not be good for a few tries per game with more space?

What makes the tigers contenders? They have Koroibete who admittedly is the fastest human being on earth (much like idris is the largest), but one man can only do so much, and it seems they literally have no one else? Like f**kin nobody?
In fact one might say they are a joke of a footy side, and as a club a disgrace to the NRL?

lol wat?

Am I reading this right? They sold tickets to a music festival, and ... I dunno, on the back of that ticket or something was the tickets to the 9s, and vice versa, so each event will be approximately half empty just because kiwis wanted to save paper or something?

Oh wait, I'm not reading it right.

Are you sure? I get the impression they are. Also they're about 10 years behind, so eminem is still probably considered relevant there. This could be a disaster. Typical of the nrl to mess up like this.

I don't believe it's run by the NRL at all?
