From what I know of many boys were called in to the team at the last moment with players committed with work, injured etc. Eg. Willie Morunga, PJ Faamausili and many more.

Fringe Warriors 20s boys are okay quality and given the chance played to their best abilities ie. Glen Fisiahii, Daniel Palavi, Sione Lousi, John Palavi etc.

The Melbourne Storm had a great 2009 season and should be held as the bench mark. SG Ball side (u18s) went to the finals and loss to the Bulldogs. NYC side (u20s) went to the finals and beat West Tigers in their final. Central Coast Storm who rarely used NYC players (Luke Kelly played 2 games, Jesse Bromwich played 1 game, Gareth Widdop played 1 game -all during the regular season beating the Bankstown Bulls) were beaten in their semi-final and effectively knocked out -similar to Manlys 2009 side. Players un-used in the SG Ball/NYC side were sent to a local side, Sunbury Tigers. Even they smashed the Casey sharks in their Victorian RL grand final. And of course the Storm beat the Eels in their NRL grand final.

I think with the Warriors/Vulcan's there will need to be more developments at the grass roots level, earlier player and coach selections, trainings started for many NSW cup sides in October/early November. Possibly the idea of starting up a SG Ball side for the Auckland under 18s? May cost an arm and a leg but if the Newtown Jets are capable of this and competing with many other NRL/NSW cup sides then maybe there could be a possibility for this?

Grassroots were given a shot to show how us Aucklanders can compete with these sides! Wonder what the review of the 2009 season would say and reflect on in 2009?

To get the maximum benefit the Vulcans need to be run as a Warrior's reserve side, with players moving as necessary between the three teams.
(Like they ran in the Superleague era.)
The U20 are great, but it is still too big a jump for many of them into the Warriors top side. And, as they exceed to age limit, to go to club teams is a step backwards.
The Warriors need a three team setup under the control of Warriors coaching staff.
How this is to be funded I don't know. But the benefits to New Zealand league would be great.

I dont fully agree.
That would only benefit the warriors - well maybe not only but it would benefit them more than it does NZ.

Warriors cant afford to fund three teams. What benefit would it be for ARL to pay for something the warriors will take advantage of.

Yes they need to intergrate some of the 20's and NRL better yes.
However they need a core team before they worry about left overs.
They need to have selected some core over 20's and fox memorial talent from last year and have them training now.

You can't plan on NRL leftovers carrying the team. What about last year players didnt even both training with vulcans because they had such 'depth' at the warriors.
However it pans out that Liam Foran, Witt, Fien all leave the club etc.

Teams like Balmain, Wests, Wenty all have core group of solid players some with no connection to the NRL club. then water talent they get for the week is only a bonus.

Again it was a joke - I now as some clubs they were nominating players - some didnt have passports at the time, some couldnt leave the country, so they ended up getting third choice players from a Fox team to play NSW cup. lol.

Brent Gemmel is telling young players that they will get a look in at the Vulcans but they have to sign up with Mt Albert,

Maybe a sign of strategy going forward for the Vulcans not good in terms of garnering support for the Vulcans i wonder if Brent told this to the clubs he invited to his presentation at Mt Smart,

This sort of approach is disappointing as it is not inclusive and not for the good for the game as a whole,

Players should be able to play the club they want to play for and then get selected for rep footy didn't think Brent and Mt Albert would operate that way we need to grow the game at grass roots level by being inclusive not by operating exclusively like this,

Read all my previous posts about Mt Albert. They're p*ssing in the back pockets of the Warriors and all the other clubs are getting screwed because the ARL are funding the Vulcans and the trickle down effect benefits Mt Albert.

Bluey, John Ackland, Tony Iro and now Chockie were/are all riding the gravy train of ARL/Warriors.

Think I'd rather that happen than to wait for other ARL clubs to get there acts together... they have a lot of positives about the level of professionalism and approach to starting up the Mt Albert side that played NSW cup in 2007. Auckland have come through to aid the club and without this many other boys would have little to aspire to IMO

I came across a video tape last year - 'Tat vs. Glenora at Eden Park. I've never watched the main game since i.e. WC 1988.

i have the 88 wc final on dvd...but would prefer the tat game

tony was one of the favs when i was growing up, was more into the local scene than aussie. even for a moment there i supported city-pt when he went there. even played lock in juniors cause thats what he played haha dude never pulled his socks up, had some killer calves
