And so is State of Origin … its ratings have halved in 10 years – and V'landys. Gould, the clubs etc know the implications of this: less broadcasting $$$

I personally don't watch it anymore: same two teams, same 3-game format, year after year … and 40% of the NRL stars excluded … it's a second-rate product.

Give me international RL any day
As a QLDer, I loved the SOO concept.
It provided an opportunity for revenge on the state who took our best, made them play against us and then acted smugly when we were destroyed.
After we had our success it provided an opportunity for NSW to get their own payback and bragging rights.
But…..it’s been 40 years now and we’ve had our fill. The hate is gone and been replaced by Phil Gould bullshit about “state of origin plays” and “state of origin type players”.
Just shut the f**k up!

Origin is not the pinnacle, Test football is. If you dominate in this arena, you are truly a great. The WC is our sport’s premier event and I’m ashamed my country has turned its back on it. Meanwhile, they are trying to expand a domestic product that is failing…f**ken idiots.

Brilliantly summed up.

He will go down as one of rugby league's greatest pioneers for what he has done for Tonga and international game.

I couldn't respect and admire Jason Taumalolo more.

Legend is an overused word - but not in his case.
Haha, I'm the complete opposite, he made a commitment to NZ and then jumped ship on the eve of a tournament. That's a dog act.

He's Judas to me, I hope they revoke his NZ passport and he's never allowed to set foot in NZ again. 🤣

When the first Immortals were chosen the promotional photo showed the chosen players in full Kangaroos kit. In the future they will show any new inductees in their Origin kit. 😞

'Bumpy' autumn and winter expected, says Van-Tam

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam has said a bumpy Autumn can be expected, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Is there such a massive appetite that they'll all sacrifice their eight weeks off so it doesn't effect the NRL season. I doubt it.

How about a pay cut to make it more commercially viable. I doubt that even more.

How about we talk about compensation for each player that is injured at the event. The RFL and WC organisers would never agree to that.

I mean honestly what the players want doesn't mean shit if the event isn't going to make a large enough return for stakeholders to make it worth while, and that's the whole problem with international RL at the moment; the risk isn't worth the return.

That’s a bullshit take.

So you are totally ignoring what James Graham said about the eight weeks leave arrangements players had with their clubs and the fact that Cameron Smith seemed to cope alright. You also tried the insurance argument on the TRL forum and were shot down there too.

Are the national union teams from New Zealand and Australia still going to the UK this October?
