Krezja has been shocking...not spinning it, bowling half vollies and bowling short. Casson needs to get his ass over to India ASAP!

Heard on the radio that Sunshine pulled out of the tour game due to a virus  He is still a softcock. And Ponting wants this wimp in the test side.

Pretty funny that, the guy's a walking disaster. People talked about Bond, but at least he played sometimes, and when he did he was amazing. Watson never actually plays in a game of any substance

As for your spinners   are you serious?? I thought Cameron White's bowling was hilarious, but it seems more and more clear that he's now a genuine spin option in Australia...

Katich won 'bat-off': Nielsen

October 02, 2008
AUSTRALIA coach Tim Nielsen has revealed that Simon Katich pushed ahead of Phil Jaques in the openers' pecking order by making consecutive centuries against West Indies.

Katich thought at the time that he was merely a stand-in while Matthew Hayden recovered from an Achilles problem, but Nielsen said that he and Jaques had effectively been pitted in a “bat-off” to decide who would partner Hayden here in India.

Katich was chosen ahead of Jaques for the tour match against an Indian Board President's XI in Hyderabad, sealing his place in the team for the first Test in Bangalore next week.

“Mainly the selectors thought that Katto and Jaquesy pretty much had a bat-off in the West Indies,” Nielsen said.

“We didn't picture it that way at the time, but they thought Katto was playing extremely well.

“He made hundreds in Antigua and Barbados, the last couple of Tests of the series, he's come off a stellar summer in Australia and is in such good form that they just thought he may have edged himself in front of Jaquesy as the second choice opening batsman behind Matthew.

“It's a nice position to be in when you've got three quality opening batsmen, unfortunately three doesn't go into two, so the choice they made was to go with Simon this time.”

Nielsen said that 33-year-old Katich's left-arm wrist spin and marginally better fielding had also helped him to ease in front of New South Wales teammate Jaques.

“It's just the whole package,” Nielsen said.

“Katto can bowl spinners if we need him to. He didn't bowl today.

“He's a good fielder and player. I'm not saying Jaquesy doesn't do those things, but just at the moment the feeling is that Simon is maybe playing a bit better.”

Katich's Indian experience - he deputised successfully at No.3 for the injured Ricky Ponting on Australia's victorious 2004 tour in India - is also thought to be a factor in his inclusion.

Krejza seeks refuge from drugs storm
From correspondents in Hyberabad, India
October 03, 2008
JASON Krejza will take the field for Australia seeking refuge from the story that broke overnight surrounding his positive test for cocaine in 2006, a result he said came via a spiked drink.

But off-apinner will also looking for form and confidence following a first day battering by the Indian Board President's XI in Hyderabad.

Krejza was belted to all parts of the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium by young batsmen Rohit Sharma (105) and Virat Kohli (105) as the President's XI raced to 6-371 at stumps.

He left the field to be interviewed about the incident, which adds another offbeat chapter to a career full of misadventures.

"It was terrifying," Krejza said after play.

"It was a real shock when it all happened. My first reaction was to go through the correct channels (with Cricket NSW).

"We are told of these processes all the time, so my immediate reaction was to speak to the appropriate people there.

"You think about how (a potential positive test) might affect things, but that's just from the shock.

"Basically, it was terrible."

Following the incident, Krejza moved from NSW to Tasmania, where he was banned from pre-season training due to a drink-driving offence he said was a turning point in his career.

Australia are relying heavily on Krejza to hold up as the touring party's lone fit spin bowler, with coach Tim Nielsen saying selectors had not considered using an all-pace attack in the Test series against India, which starts in Bangalore next week.

When the President's XI are dismissed, captain Ricky Ponting and senior opener Matthew Hayden will both be looking for time in the middle to boost their confidence levels following injury-interrupted winters.

Why Watson? What does he bring to the table? We have 6 better batsmen than him (hayden jaques punter clarke katich hussey) and we already have two mediocre bowlers (johnson, krejza), we dont need a 3rd. Why in f**ks name is Shane Watson all of a sudden the answer

I know hes not great Krejza, but I dont know how you can go into a test over here without a spinner.

Id be flying Hauritz or Casson over there ASAP in case McGain isnt fit for the second test, and to give us options.

Jaques
Hayden
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Katich
Haddin
Krejza
Lee
Johnson
Clark

thatd be mine. Id have no problem with ditching Jaques, Katich to open and Watson to 6. I donr think Watsons that bad, and I dont think Jaques is that good

Aussies struggle in tour match

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli each cracked centuries as the Board President's XI closed the first day of the tour match against the visiting Australians 6-371.

Sharma, almost run out on 99, hit a fine 105 off 144 deliveries and Kohli made an identical score from 146 balls as the two youngsters left Australia captain Ricky Ponting with plenty to ponder.

The pair added a brisk 146 runs for the fifth wicket, in the process hauling the President's XI out from a spot of bother at 3-59.

Parthiv Patel was batting one short of a half-century and Irfan Pathan was on 17 when stumps were drawn.

Left-arm paceman Mitchell Johnson acquitted himself well on a poor day for the Australian bowlers as he returned with a haul of 3-62 from 20 overs.

Wasim Jaffer and Akash Chopra got the President's XI off to a steady start after the home side won the toss and elected to bat.

Brett Lee and Stuart Clark frequently delivered short and wide with the new ball, leaking runs with an attacking field in place.

Jaffer (19) looked supremely confident until Clark tempted him with a bouncer with the last delivery of his fifth over.

Jaffer mistimed the pull and Johnson ran a few steps to his right down at fine leg to pouch an easy catch.

Chopra (25) was hit on the back pad by Johnson with a delivery that straightened after pitching on leg, while Subramaniam Badrinath (two) fell leg before to Peter

Siddle, replays suggesting the bowler was fortunate with his appeal.

President's XI skipper Yuvraj Singh set about restoring some order to his side's innings and together with Sharma added 61 runs for the fourth wicket before being tamely dismissed.

Yuvraj had batted fluently for his 29 when he was served a bouncer from Johnson.
The left-handed batsman initially looked to pull, but then attempted to leave the delivery. The ball, however, caught the edge of the bat and ballooned to Michael Hussey at slip.

The dismissal brought Kohli and Sharma together.

Sharma, dropped from the Indian team announced by selectors for the first two Tests in the Border-Gavaskar series, gave notice of his form as he stroked the bowlers around the park.

Both players showed scant respect for spinners Michael Clarke and Jason Krejza as they took President's XI past the 250-run mark.

It was a sad beginning for specialist off-spinner and Test hopeful Krejza as he was not only hit for 124 runs, but went wicketless as well.

The Tasmanian spinner is expected to get the nod to play in his debut Test next week after fellow spinner Bryce McGain was ruled out of the match with a shoulder injury.
Hmmm. Not a good start ...
