Let's face it, as great as some of these guys can sing, at this stage they're just karaoke singers. Sure some of them have been performing for a couple of years, but let's face it, if they were really so good, they would have been noticed, instead of having to wait for a TV karaoke singing contest.

No disrespect to these guys, mind you - I have a level of respect for what they're doing at the moment (I'd never be able to do it myself), but I won't fully respect them until they become the complete package, co-writing their own music, arranging it, and establishing an original piece of music as a hit, without Channel 10 plugging it in every single TV show.

Andy Warhol said everyone get's 15 minutes of fame. I tend to think of the Idol's fame as being measured with an egg-timer.

idol is a parasite on the australian music industry.

when decent hard working aussie bands like UMI get dropped off their label so paulini can be signed its a freaking disgrace. there taking money away from the bands who have been in their for the hard slog. gone are the days of the aussie band or artists starting out in a pub working their asses off to just get food on the table and pay the bills.

these "idols" get their 15 minutes of fame and become yesterdays news faster than billy ray cyrus, all while the real artists contimue to struggle trying to find recognition from a label that doesnt want to follow suit and sign the person who came 6th in the competiton.

when glorified karaoke singers are getting more recognition than most decent hard woking aussie bands then it shows the music industry is rubbish.
