I heard it on the radio this morning. That is an enormous effort to reach the quarter-finals. Hopefully, she can continue to impress

Yes Stosur will be a great chance of making the final now.

She plays Maleeva next, and will be a good shot at winning that match.

You were correct Razor with your prediction, I'm proud to say :D

Samantha Stosur def. Magdalena Maleeva, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4

That is fantastic - she's now into the semi finals

Yep and playing Farina-Elia. I'd say Sam will win that. She played great tonight. Sam & Brianne really should have won their doubles match. They led 4-2 in the final set against their seeded opponents, but lost the last 4 games.

Will the semi final/final be televised on free-to-air? Did you go and watch the match? Pity about the doubles result. BTW, how far has Sam made it in a pro tournament before?

The final is live on 7

Did you go and watch the match?

Yes I went today. Great day. Shame Petrova pulled out, but still got 7 hours of tennis.

BTW, how far has Sam made it in a pro tournament before?

Semi-finals of the Gold Coast last year. So equaled her best.

Awesome to hear that you had a fantastic time at the tennis. Hopefully, Sam can go one step better this year, and have the opportunity to take the title :D

I heard on the news that Lleyton Hewitt is into the quarter finals of the Next Generation Hardcourts tennis tournament - hooray! :D

Apparently he won pretty comfortably against Agustin Calleri in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. I have never seen Calleri play before - not to my knowledge anyway. Looks like Lleyton is on track to hopefully winning this tournament for the third time.

BTW, Lleyton Hewitt will play against Taylor Dent (no. 5 seed) in his quarter final clash. Taylor Dent accounted for Julien Benneteau in 3 sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Wow, that is truly amazing! She should be so proud of herself reaching her first WTA final. Go Sam! She must of played extremely well in the final set, as judging by the scorecard, she absolutely demolished Silvia Farina Elia 6-1. I'll definitely be tuning into the final :D Are you attending the final Razor?

Just read an article, and Sam will be facing Patty Schnyder (no. 2 seed) in tomorrow's final after defeating Tatiana Golovin in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Well, top seed Lleyton Hewitt has just bowed out of the Next Generation Hardcourts tennis tournament in straight sets to Taylor Dent (no. 5 seed), 7-6, 6-3

No. If I buy tickets now, I'll get bad seats, and there's a 73% chance (their figure, not mine) I'll be working tomorrow I was told when leaving tonight 10 minutes ago.

Unfortunately for all us Sam fans, she was defeated in the final of the Uncle Tobys Hardcourt Championships by Patty Schnyder (no. 2 seed and world number 14) in 3 sets, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5. Judging by the scorecard (I didn't manage to watch the final on TV), Sam was on a roll in the 1st set. She must of struggled on serve for the final 2 sets or Patty Schnyder must of been playing brilliant tennis. Despite the outcome, it is still a top effort by Sam. She should be very proud of herself.

Well I watched everything bar the third set.

In the first set Samantha was absolutely on fire!, dead set killing them.

In the second, she went off the boil and lost it.

That's the thing with Sam. Very inconsistant within a match.

Sam's road to the Sydney title

1st Round - Jelena Kostanic - Sam should win
2nd Round - Either Ai Sugiyama or Tatiana Golovin - Both very good players. I'd say Tatiana will beat Sam, but if Ai beats Tat, then Sam will win
Quarter-Final - Probably Davenport - But if Lindsay is troubled with injury then probably Dechy
Semi-Final - Probably one of Dementieva but possibly Sprem or Schynder
Final - It'll be a Russian. One of Nasia Petrova/Anastasia Myskina/Vera Zvonareva

One thing that is interesting coming out of the Gold Coast is that even though she was the runner-up Samantha earned more points that Schynder did.

The reason is because, unlike the mens tour, the womens tour gives 'quality points' which are determined by the ranking of the players you beat. Points are awarded for beating players ranked in the top 200. Sam beat higher ranked opponents than Patty.

Wow, that is very intriguing to hear - I never knew that! I believe that is a good, and pretty fair system especially considering a much lower ranked player like Sam had to defeat players with a much a higher ranking to reach the final. You learn something new each day.

I will be watching today's Next Generation Hardcourts final this afternoon. Hopefully, Joachim Johansson will win it. Go Joachim! :D

Hooray, Joachim Johansson won the final in straight sets against Taylor Dent, 7-5, 6-3  He was virtually cruising all match, no worries on serve at all, whereas Dent consistently had much tougher service games. The first set was quite enjoyable to watch.

It should be a pretty entertaining Chennai Open final with top seed Carlos Moya playing against second seed Paradorn Srichaphan. It is expected that Carlos Moya will win, but I'm sure Srichaphan will put on a great fight. It's a repeat of last year's final in which Moya won, and it is Srichaphan's fourth consecutive final's appearance. I wish I could actually watch it.
