Tonearm, isn't Starc out for the series with a side strain? And do you think Maddinson is ready? I'd have them both in the side by the way. But I think Maddinson needs two or three seasons of first class cricket yet. Starc is ready but injured I'm pretty sure.

Watson
Hughes (Jaques and Marsh just miss out)
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Haddin
Smith/Khawaja/Hastings - depends on the pitch.
Doherty - need to develop spinners over at least two series.
Harris
Copeland
Bollinger

This time in 2 years.

Watson (Maddinson when Watson retires)
Hughes
Khawaja
Ferguson
Clarke
Haddin
Smith
Doherty/O'Keefe (depending on development)
Starc/Hastings (batsman's paradise then Hastings)
Copeland
Bollinger

12th man: George.

Jaques is out of form and hasn't been in form since his back injury. Needs to start tuning out the 100s again to get back in the frame.

The team selectors will pick with suggestions from Ponting and Nielsen:

1. Watson
2. North
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Hussey
6. North's brother Peter
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Siddle
11. Hilfenhaus

We lose another test by an Innings and all selectors commit harakiri

The team I would pick

1. Hughes
2. Watson
3. Khawaja
4. Clarke (c)
5. Hussey
6. S Smith
7. Haddin
8. O'Keefe
9. Harris
10. Copeland
11. Bollinger

I would be tempted to bring Cameron White into the side as captain. He would sh*t all over Ponting as captain

We need to build the side for the future starting NOW!
The biggest problem this Australian side has today is leadership. Both Ponting and Clarke are the reason...they must both be "Punted". Pun intended.

When the test starts Johnson would of had a 2 week rest and usually he plays his best at the WACA so I would bring him in. If he fails, never again! Doherty has done SFA, seriously what has he done? Dismissed a couple of tailenders and a batsman (Pietersen) who was instructed to get as many runs as possible before a declaration. While Hauritz has done exactly what was asked from him, go back to shield and find form.
Can't have North in the side at all. Time to bring in Smith and have him there for the rest of the series.
Ponting needs to start scoring runs. He has been a legend for Australia and his career stats says it all and deserves to finish on his own terms, but if he doesn't start scoring runs he should be tapped on the shoulder and given a chance to retire and farewell test cricket rather than getting cut.

Also, congratulations to Ryan Harris on becoming only the second Aust player to get a king pair

The guy bowled absolute rubbish 10km slower than he normally does in Adelaide. As for a flat pitch it didn't look too flat when the poms bowled on it. He got one wicket with a strike rate of 174 going for 4.48 per over, hardly anything for the poms to lose sleep over

If fitness is an issue then sure , but he shouldnt be dropped for bad form.

One bad game in his twelve is more than acceptable.

Pontings gotta go. 1 century in his last 17 test matches. What a slump. No candidates for the captaincy when the guy everyone was touting - Marcus North - is only performing slightly better than Ponting. Michael Clarke is apparently unpopular with other players so he's out.

Okay... In that case I saw a kid in the under 11's who looked talented. Let's pick him.

Dickhead.

Ian Healy was what, 9 matches in to his first class career when selected and became the greatest ever gloveman or should we just wait until they're over 30 like Hussey?
