Axemen and USA National Team Player, Kenny Britt, has stepped up in a big way to start a youth Rugby League camp in the Orlando Area - Kenny will also play a key role in developing the Orlando Team that will compete in the 2nd divison comp that the Axemen are developing for Florida.

The Axemen have also wasted no time to get into their community involvement in 2011

I'd love to eventually see schoolage tours to Australia or the UK.
These type of tours are a lot easier to organise than senior tours, and the age American players would benefit most from a tour is under 18s level.
It's easier to organise the tours because sponsers are more willing, the kids don't have to get leave from their jobs, it's seen as educational to go on an overseas sporting trip etc etc.

Excellent work! Is this the first one or do the Axemen also do this for kids around Jacksonville?

All we need is 20 inspirational leaders like Spinner to start up teams. They should use the JAX AXE model for future franchises.

Youth programs are really important. Will always be hard in a market like that. But you'll always achieve more by trying, than you will by doing nothing.

Good work Spinner.

Have they looked at Oztag which would be great for school type programs, get people used to the game without the big hits. Great way for those not used to the game to get a feel for it. Has someone licenced the sport there? If not, it's something I would be looking at.

Have been following the US Developments with interest for a while and decided to get a log in.

Like the idea of having the second division type comp in Jacksonville so that new players can give the game a go without to much travel or having to play against some of the Aussie/NZ imports who have been playing all there life.

These comps would provide a good social game and anyone who really excels could step up to the higher comp

Re: 2nd division, the game is crying out for it.

Firstly it needs more 'local' games that don't require as much travel. Secondly there needs to be an interim step for players and clubs before hitting the AMNRL. Having fledgling clubs with noobie players up against hardened, experienced and well-run sides is detrimental to all involved. It can destroy clubs and players before they're ready, leading to drop out, and also hurts the credibility of the top league.

At the end of the day the more teams playing the better. And it's good to have multiple standards for guys who just want to have a run. Ultimately AMNRL teams should be aiming to have reserve sides that have more modified rules (unlimited interchange, quarters etc), with the first grade sides moving to 17 man squads and more rigid enforcement of proper RL rules.

Absolutely! You can't expect to expand the competition if new players have to travel thousands of miles simply to be cannon fodder. They would only get dispirited and/or injured and leave the game.

In an ideal world, each geographical region would have their own reserve grade competition, as well as juniors comps, with rules suitably adjusted to get new players in the door and allow them to cut their teeth at a suitable level. Then the top flight teams need to help in training these new players to get them up to speed. Jacksonville are isolated from the rest of the teams. Hopefully the north-east teams can help each other out.

If Jacksonville are successful in bringing in more players, it is possible for the region to have a second team in the top league. But that should be down the track...
