Back the defence versus hold the ball.

Echoing what a lot are saying, I don’t think it’s about changing our style, it’s more about being more selective/responsible with when we de decide to ‘throw it around’. We simply can’t turn the ball over in our own half and around the halfway line as often as we have been doing. We must aim to play the game in the opposition third of the pitch, particularly against teams like Panthers/Storm/Roosters. Give up the field position to those teams as often as we have in recent games and we’ll be toast, regardless of how good our goal line defence has been.
So, in summary, be a little more conservative in yardage sets, and continue to throw the kitchen sink at em in ‘good ball’. It would be nice to see us peg teams in their own 20 with multiple repeat sets, but if we can chuck it about and score points instead, who are we to complain.

I'm noticing a lot of so called experts are backing us to win Saturday night but not winning the next one.

They are all saying Penrith/Parra grand final.

I think winners of week 1 are more likely to win week 3.

Only because if you look at some of the team’s vying for week 3 the hard way. They will have been through an incredibly tough 6 weeks of footy by the time they get there.

Honestly, week 1 is massively imperative for us.

So, we kind of did neither….

We certainly didn’t defend how we’d need to in order to win low scoring tight games, and our attack against Souths was impotent.

As I said in my post, give the good teams field position and we’re toast!

I’m a big believer in earning the right to swing it wide and play ‘fancy’, but in league, size matters. Maybe more than pure speed. We lack a little in size, which early one assisted with mobility in defence.

If we play a little straighter, we look better. Second half of the year defences just slid off because we headed sideways and ended up cramping the centres.

Tweak this and build into the year, for improved finals performance.
