PARRAMATTA remain confident of securing the signature of NSW Origin skipper Trent Barrett.

It would leave the Sharks in total disarray with a skipper who doesn't want to be there next season, a star winger who wants out, a coach who won't be there and still no appointment as CEO. Despite denials this week, the Eels have been secretly talking to Barrett's agent Wayne Beavis for several weeks. They are hopeful he will sign a contract by Wednesday to play the final season of his career in a blue and gold jersey.

Barrett does not require surgery on his shoulder. He is considered a 50/50 chance to face the Raiders this week - doubt he will be risked.
