Penrith Panthers ready for Battle of the West against Parramatta
PENRITH Panthers fans will have the chance to see their team in action for the first time this year when they face the Parramatta Eels in the annual Battle of the West trial at Centrebet Stadium on Friday. After 18-18 draws against both the Ipswich Jets and Newcastle Knights, the Panthers are looking to lead into the NRL season with a victory against their local rivals.
Panthers five-eighth Travis Burns said the game would be about improving combinations and he expected the team to lift on Friday.
I thought we played quite well against Newcastle last weekend, with pretty much our top team playing in the first half, Burns said.
``We want to win every game whether it be a trial or not and last year they gave us a bit of a touch up so we do want to put in a big performance on Friday night.
``Its our last hit out before the season begins so its a good chance to work on those combinations again under the new game plan Ivan has given us.
The Panthers are hopeful of a good crowd against the Eels, who will also be looking for a good matchcomin the lead up to the season .
``Parramatta are a strong side and obviously they will be ready for the local derby, Burns said.
``Hopefully we can play well and give something for the fans to cheer about.
*PENRITHS Toyota Cup side drew 24-24 with Newcastle in Toronto on Sunday.
