doesn't this all come down to clarification and confirmation of next year's salary cap by the powers that be ? Once we know where we stand capwise, an attractive offer can be made to Mr Maloney.

I honestly dont understand the "he signed a contract" mentality.
What are we going to do if he doesnt play well , on purpose? You cant fine him. Cant dock him. I dont understand the mentality of keeping an individual at a club who would be filthy aabout being there.
ITs just a contract. He will not be struck down by a lightning bolt if he asks for a release.
On the flip side, what clubs do is demote the player & tell him he can look around. They still pay him, but why would he want to be there?

Well he and his manager got the third year they were after.
Now any good manager knew that the salary cap changed after this season, hence why we are seeing some ridiculous figures thrown about for players who dont deserve it.
Maloney should be taking his manager to court.

Interesting that Jimmy is high profile in the RLPA ......guess it's in his interest in particular to get a decent outcome salary cap wise if he's after an upgrade for '18. Ironic that he went for the security of the 3 year deal but ultimately dudded himself some coin.

Maloney has stated he is happy at the Sharks.

If he was really pissed with the Club he would just say my manager is currently trying to work something with the Club and leave it at that.

FMD who said anything about him being unhappy or being pissed at the club. His manager is looking at his next gig which will be either at the Sharks or elsewhere for about 4 year after this year.
Its a pretty simple scenario to work out, I dont understand what is not understood.

I'd sympathise with him if this salary cap increase came out of the blue but he signed this contract very recently. He signed a shit contract thats on him, he wanted the extra season that the roosters weren't offering and was more than happy to jump ship for it.

Im for increasing his money only if there is extra years added, if thats not possible then keep him to his contract, he wants to play origin and internationals, he wont play half assed.

Not playing well intentionally could likely cost him any Origin income via non selection. Which is what about, about $150k plus any contract rep clauses being activated at the club.

Plus potential suitors might not be lining up for 2019 if he
a) is intentionally playing poorly out of spite and
b) and clubs might not think his form warrants a big pay day anymore.

He's not going to not play well on purpose, plus he's a competitive mofo, like most professional sports players.

Still has a year to go obviously the manager is having the whinge. Hope the club are moving into a good position to replace him because they won't match what some other clubs will offer

What's not to get? It is no different from clubs wanting to move players on but the players digging in because they know they're on a good wicket and not likely to make anywhere near that money elsewhere. Wasn't that long ago Josh Hannay spent a year in reserves for us yet refused to go.

I'm not sure there's been an example of a player deliberately dogging it. If any player did that I'd be releasing them and asking the NRL to refuse to register their contract for the remainder of the year.

Coach "Player, why didn't you put your body on the line? You let that 130kg front rower score, now we cant make the semi's!"
Player " Well, I'm ok to go to another club"

It doesnt matter if they or don't. The only things that matter are the perception & the mental state of the player. How did Moses go in last few games , just a few weeks ago. I thought he tried hard. But he was awful. & then he got pillored by the media. If the player asks for a release, there is nothing to gain for the residing club in retaining the player. All they can do is negotiate the best possible outcome for themselves, prior to releasing the player.

Origin is a big lure for Maloney. Never a chance that he dogs a season because he's upset his previously good deal is now not so good.
